My first post With a couple Questions

Hello everyone,

I have a problem right now, I'm 18, currently 5'10" and weigh 250 lbs.

I need help. My goal is to get to my ideal weight which if I was told correctly was 160-180 lbs (so my goal is to lose 80 pounds. Can anyone recommend any kind of exercises I could do?

I personally think that the best thing to do would be to simply run a lot (I'm not sure how much, it's the reason I'm asking people here) and to eat healthier. My house is full of a lot of healthy & unhealthy stuff (mostly due to my brothers).

What could I eat as alternatives? My parents are all for buying me things for a healthier alternative but I'm not sure what. And like I asked before, how much should I run and how often? I essentially wanted to know what I should expect since I'm really inactive...for now...

Any ideas? I appreciate it

Hi and welcome.
Not sure about the exercise part - maybe someone else will come along and help with that.
What type of diet would you like to do??? We have people on here on Cambridge, Lighter life, Slimming world, Weight watchers, Rosemary connoly, low GI as well as some who follow the Paul Mckenna programme.

Hello there Edge!

Gosh, exercise is a really personal thing. Whatever you eventually decide to do, it has to satisfy several important criteria:-

It has to be sustainable i.e. you have to be able to keep doing it long term.

It has to be enjoyable or you will find excuses not to do it.

It has to fit in with your lifestyle, and become an integral part of your life (invisible).

You can exercise in groups (e.g. aerobics or team games); public areas (gyms, parks), individually (walking or running), at home (run up and down stairs, video/DVDs), the list is endless!

Healthy choices is the name of the game nowadays. Low GI/GL seems to be very popular too. There is a good selection of books at your local library so I recommend you start there and borrow a selection to read through.

Drink plenty of water, get enough sleep (yes, yes I know I am asking the impossible - I mean, what 18 year old gets enough sleep!)

It is good that you have found Minis, Edge. Hopefully, you can dip into some of the threads to get more information, and read about other peoples' experiences.

Good Luck!

AJ

Hiya Edge 100

Welcome to this nice and supportive site i have found it very helpful and supportive.

I am the same as you I weigh 252lbs and i have got alot to lose and i cant seem to find the right weightloss plan and my mind is turning over which one shall i do and as to exercise i dont do any as i get out of breath quite easy and find it hard to get moving it is all due to my weight .
I would like to start exercising but dont want anything too streneous .

What diet plan are you going to follow so me and you with the nearly same to lose could be a pair together.
I have not got any motivation at moment is what i need I also have a sweet tooth and that is my let down if i could control that i would lose weight easy .

So good luck with what you decide.

Regards

First of all, I sincerely appreciate everyone's replies, it really means a lot to me.

Bethany246, I haven't decided which diet plan to start with, but one thing I am starting to do is just eat healthier. I've stopped drinking soda entirely and replaced it with about 14 glasses of water a day.

For exercise, i think I'll take the advice above and just start running every morning. At first I'll walk and gradually increase.

So I'll wish good luck to both of us!

I think as you are quite inactive is to seek advise from your Gp 1st to see if you are ok to do any and what sort of exercise is best as for the diet i suggest you do whatever you feel happiest doing as at the end of the day its down to personal choice and come here for the moral support

That's an excellent start, Edge!

I was reading the other day that interval training is good for keeping the metabolism going strong. What you could do is walk for 1 minute, then run for 1 minute, than walk for 1 minute etc., then eventually increase it to 2 mins each.

Good luck, let us know how you get on.
