How do you prepare soups/shakes at work?

Sorry me again, should really put up a disclaimer saying sorry there will probably be a million questions from me this week!

Just wanted to ask how you all get on preparing your meals at work?

I got through breakfast (Porridge) relatively easily, microwaved, done. But with the soups and shakes it says to mix thoroughly until smooth with a blender or whisk. As understanding as my colleagues are, I just cant bring in a blender to work to prepare my shake for lunch, so I thought a hand balloon whisk would do the trick as i could do it at my desk (i work in an open plan building and got lots of strange looks btw!) I tried adding the water slowly, then mixing etc .. but still got loads of lumps, and spent about 10 mins trying to smooth them out with the back of a spoon! Just wondered if there was an easier way? Am v. pleased that albeit lumpy, the shake (Choc Mint) was yummy and am feeling full! Just a shame that I cant whizz it up at work as im sure its prob lovely and thick when made up properly!

Am saving the soups to have for dinner so that I can sit down at the table with the fam and pretend I am eating just as they are so that I wont feel left out! So just wondered if you guys had any advice on how to prepare the meals when you are not at home?

Thanks in advance,
A x

hiya hmm i onyl use a blender as noting else seems to work as well, how about trying a sports shaker bottle?? or maybe take tetras into work with you? all ready made :D

Hi.. I take the tetras in to work with me too, you could contact your CDC and ask her to change some of your shakes for tetras for this week.. otherwise, i'd say use your soups as they are much easier to prepare in a mug.. Add a little water after the kettle has boiled ~(few mins later) make into paste, then add little water and mix and carry on until you have a soup like consitency. I add black pepper at this stage or chilli flakes which spice it up a bit. Don't forget lots of water after too :) xx

I am having soups for lunch when I am at work and I take a big plastic jug and whisk the soup with a fork. Not quite as good as a blender but good enough to get through the day.

I havent been able to get away with the shakes like that though as if I try and mix them up without a blender I just get clumps of powder floating the the surface. Not good.

Thanks for all the advice - hmm ... sounds like I may need to switch to soups for lunch - far more practical. So can you have tetras at the beginning of SS? Is it the same as making up a shake? My CDC didnt offer this option so I assumed I wasnt able to have it yet.

Also can you swap around packs after purchasing? Would be great to swap some shakes for a tetra for when im on the go. My CDC's baby is due any day so I bought two weeks worth in advance as I didnt want to bother her so close to the due date, however after having my first Porridge pack for breakfast this morning am now dreading having to eat it for the next two weeks! Do you know if this would be possible to swap the packs?

Thanks,
A x

yes most cdcs dont mind swapping at all :) and yessss you can have tetras from day 1 but you need to drink extra water the days you have them, they are ready made shakes in cartons you can get strawberry, bannana or choccy (my fav is the choccy)

AW.. yes you can have tetra's on week 1, I chose that option due to work, but you must drink more water while you have them. Call your CDC and arrange to take back what you can't take at the moment. I also had bars in my first week, which were nice and again easy for lunch. If you have your tetra's and poss choose a bar too as an option for lunch as well. The soup I find is easy to prepare at work in the mug as I posted earlier too. Just I like my soup in the eve's and tetra's are easy to use too! Re your porridges, your taste buds change on CD as you go on, you might move back to them after a period of time anyway. Good luck. xx

Hi
I also use the tetras when I go to work they are so much easier.. I have a tetra for breakfast and lunch when I am work.. its much easier that bringing a blender in.
Good luck x

may I suggest a milk foamer? you can get one from IKEA or waitrose, they cost about £2. they use 1 or 2 aa batteries and easy peasy to stick into a pocketbook. I use mine all the time and it is brill, NO LUMPS! x

I just bought a Sainsbury value hand blender for £4 and left it at work. Can't you find somewhere quiet to plug it in?

i use a sports shaker when i am out and about it mixes the shakes no probs then i just wash it out and pop it back in my bag easy peasy

Hi, I use the Cambridge shaker that I bought from my CDC although I have to point out that using that to shake up hot soup is not a good plan.........the thing just explodes and I ended up wearing leek and potato all over my chest, which looked disgusting.....People thought I had been having a good time!!!! Sorry - bit too graphic lol. I have an electric hand blender I use for my porridge at home and that makes it so creamy and nice.

I am lucky in that I have my own office (and toilet :)) which has a kettle, microwave, fridge, coffee machine etc. so my hand blender doesn't look out of place. If I were you I would have the soups (as its easy to boil the kettle) or a tetra for lunch. My CDC also sells the CD Shaker beaker thingy's, they are around £5 I think. They have a little mess covering at the top so that when you shake it up it catches the lumps. I would defo. buy one if I needed it - it looks a good idea.

Beware ladies and gents, a few months on CD will turn you too into blender gadget freaks so snicker not! :)

At home it's mainly this:

At work - Hand held mixer. Actually two sorts. One for the office -looks like a giant dil*o :)

and one for traveling and eating out for business meetings -very small, enters a glass and is battery operated, I believe you can find it listed as a "coffee frothier"-

Brill! Thanks for all the useful suggestions guys. Have brought in a soup for lunch today so will try EternalFlames suggestion of a little water, mix and so on, and hopefully it will be just as how it came out last night in the blender - i was pleasantly suprised!

Chelsea Lou - lol I have done the exact same think before with the shaker - unfortunately soup chic is not in this season so think I will try the milk frother suggestion. Have one at home so will try that out tonight and see how it goes. If it works then i can leave that here at work so that i can mix up soups and shakes so that i wont get bored!

I have my "set of tools" at work and one at home. The CD shaker, electric blender and microwave. (I have all my shakes warm)
The blender makes an awful noise and pisses folks off. Hoewever lumpy shakes are not a choice so they have to be pissed off. Granted it is sometimes 7.15 I am making the noise!
I take tetra out with me. I have both the Sainsbury and Tesco value blenders and the Tesco one is much better. The shake doesn't spray out of the shaker with it..........it's the little things in life that annoy me!
I use the hand blender with the soup too.
Good luck with your weight loss.
