Roast chicken

If I roast a chicken with the skin on but remove the skin before I eat it, is it stll a healthy B or does it carry a small syn value because some of the fat will have gone into the meat?

By the way hubby has picked his dummy up agian now and is sucking quite happily and is having quorn fillett for tea with free veg. Good for him, thought that was going to be a difficult one when I told him no extra syns for excersise lol.

I was under the impression that you can cook chicken/meat with the skin on/fat on and as long as you dont eat that bit, its free (or a HE) x

I'm not really sure of the exact answer to that question. My guess would be that if you roast it with the skin on and remove it entirely, then at least that would be better than eating it skin and all. Having said that though, I would also assume there would still be a higher fat contact to the chicken because it was basted in fat during cooking by virtue of having the skin on.

I cooked up two chicken legs at the weekend. I decided to be good and I took all the skin off (NB - I love crispy chicken skin!). I sliced some red onion and put it at the bottom of the baking dish so the chicken wouldn't stick to the bottom, set the chicken legs on top of that and then put shaved garlic, thinly sliced yellow pepper and some seasoning on the chicken, and then just a little bit of chicken stock for moisture, then sealed the whole dish up with foil and baked it. The chicken turned out delicious and moist, and the juices were yummy poured over steamed veg to have alongside the chicken. Just an idea :)

I love chicken i'm defo going to try that one!!! :p

Thanks for replies, its a tricky one isn't it? I loved the sound of the chicken roasted with onions ect Minders, I will give that a go another night. As for tonights offering, I think I will allow a few syns for it, only used a couple up to now on the gravy so no damage done, but it would be usefull to have a firm answer on syn value for future reference. Have a great night. xx

It's fine to remove skin after cooking, i checked with a previous consultant once! x

as far as im concerned, unless sw specifically say that you can't cook it with skin on, then do it.. aslong as you remove the skin.. i dont see the problem..

i have told my counciller in the past that i buy the 'extra tastey' hot ready to eat chicken from the hot counter at morrisons, but take of the skin and all she said was ' good for you for taking off teh skin, i think some of that ncie taste still sinks ina bit so its all good stuff' LOL xxx

Just checked and it definately is just like Haddock or Cod is free on a red day from the chippy if you take the batter off! xx
