CRAMPS!!!

:cry:Can anyone help please?

Since starting CD I've developed the most awful night calf cramps which take some time to relieve. My husband - bless him - has to massage my leg for several minutes before they subside.
I always thought that cramps were due to lack of salt so not sure what I can do about this?
Lovely though my husband is and the massage does alleviate it eventually, I've now got some rather bad bruises as sometimes he's rather heavy handed.
Any help, advice would be good.
Thanks in desperation - xx

i used to suffer the same while on atkins i found just upping my water really helped and hotwater bottle

hope it gets better soon as its a reall pain :-(

Ooh Dotty, lucky you having TLC from DH!!

I've not known anyone complain of cramps before. Have you been doing exercise that you don't normally? Perhaps it's related to muscle spasms because of increased exercise?

Hugs x x x

I've always had the same thing when doing CD, just have to put up with it - not nice though - hope it gets better

I've heard about the lack of salt thing too but not sure if its true or not. You can get leg cramps if you're dehydrated though so maybe up your water intake.

Hi Angela
I don't think I could drink anymore water if I tried and there's always the danger of actually drinking too much! At the moment I drink at least 2 pints over and above what I should be so I don't think I'm dehydrated.
Thanks for the suggestion though, you've all been really kind. I guess I'll just have to put up with this small but painful inconvenience for a while!

Thanks for the lovely words Angela. Hubby has indeed been truly wonderful and calls me his new 'Dolly Bird'. However, I don't think 'Dolly Bird' and '53 year old Grandma' should really go in the same sentence!
I haven't done any real exercise since starting the diet but have continued to walk as much as I can.
Just have to continue to be spoiled by Hubby I guess - such a price to pay!!!

Thanks Big H, good to know someone else is experiencing the same thing although I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
Keep up the weight loss.

Hi Lyn
As you can see from my reply to Angela, I don't think I could up my water intake any more.
Thanks for the advice though and keep up the good work.

Hello Dotty how long have you been doing CD?? I too had the leg cramps but im now week 6 and can safely say ive not had them for a week or so! theyve managed to disapear on their own so just keep going as you are im afraid theres not alot i can advise to stop them but if youve only been doing it a few weeks they may just stop like mine did I dont know if my body has now got used to CD and its stopped playing up im not sure but you'll be okay :):)

Hi Amanda
I've been on CD since middle of March so am surprised I'm still getting these. Perhaps I'm just prone to them, I am after all slightly older than you lovely young things!
I'll keep going despite the pain as I'm so proud of myself as is my lovely Hubby.
Our eldest daughter, her partner and our youngest grandson are coming to stay next week and as they've been away in Australia for 5 months they're going to see quite a difference in me.
Thanks for all the support and kind words.

Ohhh i bet they'l be amazed with the new you :D That in itself will keep you happy and motivated to carry on despite that awful night cramps!

I suffered with leg cramps for the first week on CD and they have now stopped for me. I remember asking the same question too. I would leave it a few more days and if it does not let-up id would go nad see my GP.....there is nothing worse than leg cramps at night. xx

:)Thanks Tamgredan, will do.
You're doing incredibly well on CD, keep up the good work and before you know it we'll all be slim, happy and full of energy.

I regularly get leg cramps in summer, I think it is too do with dehydration as well as salt. Anyway, I buy crampex tablets, and they do the trick. Hope you find something that works, cramps are awful.
