That's not your TDEE though. Not your maintenance calories. I'm pretty sure it can't be as you are the same height as me and similar age, and mines approx 1800 kcals.

Your BMR is what you burn just to keep your body functioning if you were in bed all day. You need a multipler to get your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure).

The harris benedict one is used the most.

Take BMR and multiply by
Sedentary = BMR X 1.2
Lightly active = BMR X 1.4
Mod. active = BMR X 1.5
Very active = BMR X 1.7
Extr. active = BMR X 1.9

Mine is 1516.05 and my TDEE is 2122 apparently. Didn't think it would be that high.

ay - im confused!!

I did that calculator thing for when im at my goal of 12st and it says my BMR is 1578.5.

So that means i should be eating that many calories if i want to maintain my weight? surely thats very high for someone who is still going to be classed as obese at 12st!

No, more than that for maintaining. At least 1578.5 times 1.2 (if you plan to spend the whole day getting cups of coffee, going to the loo, having the odd sneeze here or there).

Even more if you want to do a little more.

BTW, it might feel like masses for a while, but once you get used to it, sometimes it seems quite low. Depends what mood I'm in :D

PHEW PHEW PHEW!!!!!

That's what I get for trying to take things in when I'm in a hurry!

Mind you ....... lying in bed all day ... hmmmmm ..... at this precise moment in time that is extremely tempting!!!! :)

Thanks KD - a mine of information as per .... :):) xx

Mine was only 1498 for the weight I am now. I thought that was quite low but there you go!

It's a relief to find out you can have more isn't it :D

So your maintenance cals work out about 1800 (based on that BMR and using low activity), and more if you're active.

Cool eh
