First appointment at Drs!!!

Silence

Bouncing back
I'm slightly nervous as I have my first monthly appointment at the Doctors tomorrow.

I've lost eight pounds (almost three percent of my starting weight) since starting Xenical and I'm hoping that will be enough to be re-prescribed the drug. Do you think it will be?

Wish me luck!!!

Yeah I reckon it will be. I dont know what the guidelines are but if you are losing weight its obviously working, so theres no reason why they shouldnt issue you another batch? Well done on your loss so far. We all get pre weigh in jitters dont we!! Dont worry you'll be fine. Let us know the outcome tomorrow. x

Fingers crossed for you tomorow, Im sure it will be enough, i know when i was prescribed i had to lose 9.4lbs which was 5% of my body weight in 12 weeks .... ive a w.i in 3 weeks for 1st time

Let us know how you get on xxx

dont worry, they wont take them off you if you are losing weight, they cant expect you to lose 10% in the 1st month, i think you have done great.
my arguement would be that its better to lose weight slower so it will stay off!!! lol

Well my Dr didn't even weigh me. He just gave me a prescription for three month's worth of tablets and told me to come back in three months!!!

Hmmm, not what I would want my doctor saying but all doctors are different. They need to be checking you are healthy every month, how will they know if your blood pressure has gone up or if you are having any side affects from them?

My doctor weighs me, takes me blood pressure and asks how its going. My friend asked for them today and they have said yeah but she has to attend a weight clinic, do food diary's with the nurse and can't start them until she has been there first which I think is really good, the extra support will be brilliant.

See I wanted to be weighed and my blood pressure to be taken (although my blood pressure was ok before) and the Dr to generally ask how I was getting on... but nothing.
I asked my Dr last time if he would refer me to a weight management programme and he told me that it would be of no use to me because it just teaches common sense.
It's mad really because my Dad is on Xenical too, but with another Drs, and he goes to see the Nurse every four weeks for a check up and a chat and was offered a weight management programme.

My doctor didnt even weigh me when i went for my first appontment, he just said he'd trust me to tell him how much ive lost

I cant believe how different the GP's are with this, makes you realise that its all down to how they are as to how you are treated.

Xenical, as other medicines, are a drug at the end of the day and there are guidelines given to the GP's to consider when prescribing and for repeats.

Thought going back each month was a pain, but im with Kay, think that im happier with that, my gp always has a chat bout how im getting on too, the nurses at the practice said she likes to see things through where as the other gp's in the practice refer to the nurse after the initial prescription.

Are you disappointed that your gp was like that ?

I'm seen monthly by the nurse for weigh in and bp.
Perhaps next time you should prompt the gp to weigh you, state that you'd like to see your progress. I know in the past ive come out of appointments thinking 'I wish I'd said/asked blah blah blah'. My mum says don't be frightened of Doctors or Vicars, they are just the same as you and me, just imagine them sitting there in thier pyjamas!! LOL x

I wish he had weighed me, it just makes it easy for me to cheat, i can just walk in and say ive lost 10lb because he has no idea what i was to start with

It's annoying really, different treatment by different Doctors. Whether it's an initial prescription or health checks afterwards.
The most annoying thing for me is that I went to see the very same Doctor a year ago for a problem with my neck and he wanted to weigh me then!!!!!!!!

Thats crazy!

I find I get different checks done on occasion, weight/b.pressure etc.. they get prompts on their computers..we can see the screens in our doctors, so may have been cause if that.

However, is crazy he's not tracking your weight.

i was given the prescription by my GP and referred to a nurse who will do 2-weekly weigh ins... i haven't had my blood pressure taken since after i had my LO (about 9 months ago!)

Hi all!!! Wow how different all our doctors are. I have to go and be weighed once a month! My doc then plots it on a chart so I can see how I am doing. I usually spend bout 10 minutes with him chatting bout the month and how I am finding the pills. He wants me to loose a minimum of 2.5Kgs a month or he will take me off them. I think that is a brilliant incentive for me as I am one to go off the rails every now and again!!!

i thought the guidelines for xenical were it had to be monitered every month, i think id be going back!
i asked the doctor for them and i had to see the diet nurse first, she weighed and bp,discussed diet and then asked doc to sign script.
i have to go back every couple of weeks,
funny how doctors are so different

Personally, I would be a bit concerned if my Dr didn`t bother checking me

I have only had 1 weigh in so far, But at my initial appt and following weigh in, My Dr weighed me and took my BP and asked how I was getting on, Had I had any side effects etc etc and a general how was I?

I actually told her I was very disappointed in myself as I had only lost just over 4lbs and she was very praising of me telling me it was just right as slow off stays off and it is a good loss at just over 1lb a week ( I didn`t agree lol).

I would ask to see someone else =/

LiSe x

P.s... Re weight management, I asked my Dr at my last app to refer me to the gym. There is a gym referral and WL referral. I only wanted the gym as I already know what I should be eating etc. BUT when I had my gym induction the other day I was talking to the guy because my friend wanted to ask her Dr to refer her too so we could go together and we thought they would say no as she lives in a different county. He told me the referrals Drs so do NOT cost them anything as it is a government thing, NOT a PCT thing. So it doesn`t matter where you live in relation to where you go - You just need a referral. So your Dr has no right to say he won`t refer you. I would definately say you WANT to be referred, Not can he as that gives him the option to say no :p ;)

Sorry that was so long winded =/ lol
