The GI Diet ? How on earth does it work

caroline_ireland

MISS Failure ha
ive tried everything, my main problem is cravings and according to VHI this diet is very good if you have cravens ?? but how does it work, how many GI points are u alllowed to even eat ? can someone give me the run down on it

My understanding is that you limit your food intake to low GL foods wherever possible. You don't count points. Your best bet would be to pick up a good book about it. I would recommend The 7 Day GL Diet by Nigel Denby and Tina somebody. In my opinion that's the easiest to understand. Then there's The GL diet for Dummies, that's good too.

Lol! Just realised - please don't think I think you're thick! I've been finding it hard to get my head round and found these the most understandable. The second one i understood better after reading the first!

Best of luck whatever you decide. x

Hiya,
I have a few low GI recipe books but what I have found really helpful at first is a pocket guide from Rick Gallop called Shopping and eating out pocket guide, the GI diet. It is very simple as it is colour coded and you know exactly what is high, medium and low GI, it also gives you advice on what to eat if you go out and is small enough to fit in your handbag.

thanks everyone :D im going to get a book also be handy

cut down on cravings

Hi Guys
The Low GI diet works because you eat foods that keep you feeling fuller for longer, that way you don't feel the need for snacks in between meals. If you do get a craving, you can have a couple of squares of good quality chocolate (70% cocoa). I usually find that satisfies my cravings for something sweet. Chocolate, believe it or not has a low GI.
