Me and the scales, the scales and me

Hi everyone,
I would just like to share a few thoughts with you.

I have noticed recently that many of us are fighting with the scales (me included) .
I hate sts and I hate 1 or 2 lb losses just as much as everyone. BUT…. I am NO WAY going to give in to this.

Some are lucky enough to have a small loss, followed by a big woosh of a loss the following week. I haven’t been so lucky. I seem to be averaging 3 lbs a week. Slightly less than a stone a month (first WI aside).

You know, I have battled with my weight for so long and have never participated in a programme so intensive as CD. CD has brought me so much more than weight loss. I have confronted myself and my attitude to food, Even so, I am no where near conquering my problems with it. So I have decided that on the weeks where I sts or have a small loss, I will use this as an opportunity to learn and test myself. Afterall, confronting my relationship with food is the most difficult part of dieting isnt it? I do not believe it takes willpower all the time. I have very strong willpower actually!!! It is my attitude, mindset and bad habits that need to change. Im working on it, hopefully like we all are.

We have heard it all before haven’t we? Well, this time I will listen. It isn’t the scales that I need to be watching. Its me. ME!

So, NO! Im not going to give in, throw in the towel, worry about the scales, call the whole thing a waste of time. NO! Im learning too much about me which I hope I will take with me until the end of my days. I hope to share it with someone else someday.

So, So what. The scales didn’t move this week and last week they showed me only 2 lbs down. Maybe next week will be the same, but here I am!!! Just me!!! And she is looking better everyday. More importantly, she is starting to understand herself and go beyond that point of “fix me quick” because this is what caused the problem in the first place.

Maybe some will disagree with me but I hope some will start to understand what it is really all about. CD is only a tool for me and should be for you too.I could certainly lose weight on other diets but I chose CD because of the intenseness of it, not its effectiveness (all diets work if you follow them properly). like a drug addict going cold turkey, this was the choice I made and so far it has done me a world of good. How could I even question turning back now?

I am not failing because the scales say so today. I am winning because I have not given up and because Im starting to understand what it is really about. I want to see whats on the other side. I will win the war.

Thanks to those who listened. Rant over.:wave_cry:

Wow, this was a very good and thought provoking thread! We all get despondant if we 'only' lose a pound, especially being on diets like CD. It can seem like a lot of hard work and sacrifice for what seems a small weight loss. I would like to join in with your way of thinking and post this verse for you.......if I may xxxx

Only A Pound

Hello. Do you know me?
If you don't you should.
I'm a pound of fat, and I'm the happiest pound of fat that you would ever want to meet.....
Want to know why?
It's because no one ever wants to lose me.
I'm only one pound, just a pound.
Everyone wants to lose three pounds, five pounds or fifteen pounds.
But never only one.
So I just stick around and happily keep you fat.
Then I add to myself ever so slyly, so that you never seem to notice me, that is until I've grown to ten, twenty or even more pounds in weight.
Yes it's fun being only one pound of fat, left to do as I please.
SO WHEN YOU WEIGH IN, KEEP RIGHT ON SAYING "OH I ONLY LOST ONE POUND"
As if it's such a terrible thing!
For you see, if you do this you'll encourage others to keep me hanging around because they will think I'm not worth losing.
And as i love being around you, around your arms, your legs, your chin, your hips and every part of you.
Happy days!!! After all, I'm only one pound of fat!!!!

This made me laugh but it is also very, very poignant to many of us I think!

Hey,
thats really inspirational. Im starting CD this week and am looking forward to seeing the losses on the scales, however you are right the problems are of course much deeper and over the next few months i hope to discover what they are and work to fix them so that i can keep it off once i have reached my goal. :) Thank you for letting me see a different side to the diet, one that shows more than just weight loss. Im really excited and determined to make this last. Like you i refuse to give up until im satisfied and i will keep this thread in mind throughout my journey. :)

AAWW, thanks. It really is so easy to get caught up in the "weight loss" but there are other issues to remember.

Thanks KD. thanks Susie. Same sentiments.

Thanks foosy and liz. Glad to know others are finding themselves too!

That was a brilliant read. Thanks hun. What you say is true and anyway when the scales aren't budging, our bodies are adjusting to our new weight i'm sure and the inches come off. As long as we're on track we're all going in the right direction.

Thanks babes xxx

Thank you very much for this post.

This diet is making me rethink what I want and what I get from food. CD is giving me the space to do that, but, I still have the scales in the kitchen where I can hop on and off more times than a bus conductor. And I judge my day by what I see.

Reading your post has crystalised what I knew - that this diet is more than just lbs off and BMI down. So tonight the scales will go away, perhaps in the garden shed, and I will then deal with my addiction to the scales at the same time as my addiction to food. Leaving the weigh in to my CDC.

I am doing fine without the food, so loosing the scales should be easy...

Thanks wales.PErsonally, I dont think i will stop weighing myself(this keeps me on track), but I will not measure my success by them anymore. Thats not to say I wont be extatic if I ever get a big loss!!! but my true happiness is with my new self. All the best to you. Indeed put the scales away if this helps you.LOL

The scales are put away! Only 2 days to weigh in so should be able to go cold turkey - we will see!!!

I hate sts and I hate 1 or 2 lb losses just as much as everyone.

Why? You are still loosing the weight! I was told the weeks you loose little amounts, it's your body catching up and adjusting - so you maybe loosing the inches.

Some are lucky enough to have a small loss, followed by a big woosh of a loss the following week. I haven’t been so lucky.
Try drinking extra water. I know a lot of people who have had small losses, increase their water intake and have a 'whoosh' of a loss the following week. Also at this stage, exercise will probably help you burn a few extra calories.

We have heard it all before haven’t we? Well, this time I will listen. It isn’t the scales that I need to be watching. Its me. ME!
:D I agree, it is you hun, you need to watch closely how much you are drinking and exercising and make positive changes to ensure you get the weighlosses you are hoping for.

Emma, this wasnt me moaning about losing weight. It was me saying how much i love CD and how much it has taught me about my relationship with food.... I drink 4 ltr water per day and exercise 5 days a week FYI. Im just tryingto make the point that the most difficult part of dieting is my attitude to food, not watching the scales move slowly. hope this clears up your understanding....I really love CD. It is a great learning tool. hope you do too.

please read your pm hun

Great thread! Someone on here said recently that weight management takes motivation to start and commitment to stick with it. So I agree completely as the movement on the scales is the motivation to stick with it but you need commitment to stick with it even when the scales don't give you the motivation you need...
