Why does LL Plan rule out diet drinks i.e Diet Coke ?

Just wondering. Is there a scientific reason for this as they contain no carbs or calories.
I am sticking to water and black coffee/tea but wondered why we can't have diet drinks.

Well, for one, diet drinks cause cravings and actually cause people to eat more and gainweight.

I think they have a lot of citric acid too (?) which throws you out of ketosis.

DOn't get me going - people here know I usually pull out my soapbox when Diet Coke is mentioned!!! :D

I used to be a COMPLETE DC addict, and was actually, hand on heart, as scared, if not more - of going months without DC, more then I was about food.

BUT, I read a lot about DC and the like, and decided the stuff is PURE POISON, so I decided to take this opportunity to get out of the habit for good.

It ruins your bones, it ruins yourteeth, it ruins your stomach and it causes you to get fat. Want some now? :D

I drank on average 4-5 a day. SOmetimes more. It WAS my water. It's been 1 year and a half since I have had one, not even a tiny sip since I started LL.

If you were like me, and drank buckets full, put the stuff away. Use this opportunity for you "memory pallette" to cleanse itself.

To substitute the feeling, and sensation of a fizy drink, I used the water flavourings in fizzy water. That tasted very nice and refreshing and made a nice change to plain. Of course, its NOT DC, and I know the flavourings are artificial too - but it broke that connection for "caramel coloured" soda. Now I jt drink water or Coffee like a fiend. :D

I don't even miss it. I reallllly thought I would....but not even tempted, and cannot remember what it tastes like really.

I am sure someone will be along with the scientific reason why we can't have it. And I will put my soapbox away now, as it appears i DID get it out. :D

Coke, and a lot of others, is so acidic you haven't a chance in hell of staying in ketosis.

BUT it is also so acidic it will clean the burnt on bits in your saucepans, make coins shiny if not dissolve them, get rid of the lime scale in your loo and loosen rusty bolts to name but a few.

You still want to put that crap in your system especially with the price of dental bills now??? I'm surprised it's still legal to sell it to be honest.

Wow - I was a DC fan too - drank it all day every day - glad to be off it now I think !

Popping over from CD ...I was a diet coke addict before this-I used to drink 2 litres a day easily...After 6 weeks on CD I was craving diet coke so I bought a coke zero(no citric acid to kick you out of ketosis),took a sip....and didn't like it.Seriously couldn't drink it at all.Took another sip just to see and nope-still couldn't drink it.I left it for my friend and she had the whole bottle.LOL.My OH got a coke yesterday at McDonalds and it's sat on the coffee table...I haven't even been tempted to try it.I'm not missing diet coke at all now which is rather nice as I know I won't have to battle the addiction to it once I get to goal weight. :)

I have noticed this - that on a fairly empty stomach DC DOES make you hungry. The citric acid starts working in the stomach for a bunch of different reasons (excitation of taste buds to artificial sugar - which could make your blood sugar soar and then dip with bad after-effects), and the stomach acid itself mixed with the acids in the DC which make you feel the hunger. Of course it will disappear after a while, but some damage could be done before hand... plus copious amounts can cause health issues which I'd rather not deal with. .. and I used to be a DC addict as well! Lol. LL gave me the tools to kick ALOT of addictive habits; such as DC addiction, food addiction, smoking addiction, and just gave me the courage to keep going forward rather than get caught up on things to get obsessive about...

Personally I haven't cut it out completely because I do want to enjoy food in moderation - and not have to cut anything out (I'm in RTM though - didn't have any at all when in abstinence or on Lite) - but I very much limit how much I have. When I go to a pub I have a DC if I don't want to drink alcohol; and have a small tumbler of it to have WITH my dinner. No more after dinner though, I use DC as a 'treat' more than anything at the moment. :)
