Somewhat a sad day...

Purple Hugs

Loves weight.. training!
My 6 chickens are off to pastures new today. :sigh:

We've had a constant struggle with rats visiting to steal their food etc since getting them, and with a baby on the way we've decided enough is enough. I can no longer care for them for fear of the infection etc, so it's been down to my hubby. Also much as we'll miss them we could sure use the space we have given them as a run in the garden.

So the girls will be moving to an orchard and field with horses - free-ranging as compensation. :)
I know they'll be just as happy, if not more so, but it'll take some getting used to them not chattering away to me (and the rest of the family) when I go into the garden.

I just hope my 4 year old doesn't take too long to get used to them going. The older two are fine about it. I managed to keep them as chickens rather than pets ;).

(((((Huge Hugs))))

Oh no thats a shame. Rats r a terrible problem arent they. I was watching how clean is ur home d other day n aggie n kim went to tackle a rat problem, oh it was horrendus. Made me feel sick just at the thought of it xx

aw how sad,but i think you've made the right decision evrything considered. my old neighbours used to keep hens and it was lovely to hear them clucking about, and fresh eggs are just the best.
But your unborn baby must be priority and it sounds like your girls are going to a great place.

Thanks girls, they do have a lovely home, had an email this evening letting me know how they've settled down. The rats aren't living on our property but coming from the field behind, we've tried everything to discourage them, and to poison them (not something I enjoyed), but honestly I shall miss their chatter for a while, still have the run to dismantle and get rid of yet. it's really big so won't be a 2 minute job.
