hi, on my second week of LT, lost 9.7lb first week :woohoo:and i'm wondering about what exercises i could do. due to my calorie intake being so low, was thinking of joining a gym, found a local one which only charges a one of fee of £20 then £2 a session ( cheap but pretty good gym). but wasn't sure what kind of exercise would be best ie, cardio or weights. any advice would be good,
p.s ur all doing so great and coming on here keeps me motivated

Weights is better. Cardio can actually slow down your weightloss. But take it easy, and drink plenty of water. Because LT is burning your fat at such a fast pace, you should do muscle workouts, and tone up. Being on LT for so long, it was eating at my fat but then started moving onto my muscles. So best you strengthin them up :).

p.s congrats on your weightlose, :)

yes i agree with Yasmine, everything i've heard says to do toning excercises only. i've taken up Yoga to help with this!!

Ditto what Yas & Sarah-lou said. All advice I've been given is to avoid cardio and work on toning up (walking, pliates, yoga, weight-reps etc.). You don't want to upset the delicate intake-expenditure balance going on while on LT, so take it gently and you'll be fine!

what do you all think about going swimming ?

Hi Brocher,
congratulations on your first weigh in, you did very well, good for you. I wonder about exercise as well - but have nothing to add to that except everyone says do the toning exercises. Best of luck to you.

Your welcome monica and thank you very much for the compliment :)

happydaystcome, swimming is just as great, it's gentle, simple and works out all the bodies muscle groups. Very good exercsie to do indeed :D

This goes against everything the woman at LT told me!!!! I rang the helpline to ask them and she said take it easy for the first week and after that no problems with either cardio or resistance training. She said just ensure you drink more water to replace the sweat.

You do have to drink more water than usual when exersising yes, but a lot of people on LT have had slow weight losses from cardio exersise. I cardio for some weeks and I usually lost about 2-3lbs , which to me wasn't good enough.

But doing reps and muscle workouts for a week, I lost about 5lbs.

thanks yasmine for all your help

Any time :)

Swimming is a good exercise to do. Any kind of gentle exercise is fine just done go mad and over do it.

i've been doing lots of walking - i find it curbs the cravings and boredom if i go with a friend, and cos i do lots of chatting i don't notice how far i've walked!! im not normally one for exercise but i will definitely carry this on after ive finished LT :)

Walking is one of the best forms of exercise you can do, walk it all off! :D

hi guys, i was also thinking about the exercise issue too. Just wondering by strength training, does that mean you can do circuit training? I know this sounds thick on my part, but by circuit training I mean sit ups, press ups, squats, tricep dips, dorsal raises etc, or is circuit training too vigorous since you dont stop until youve done your circuits and your heart rate is elevated? Any advice would be appreciated, as I would like to do something to keep me focused, even though im only on day 3. :)

Hey good luck all on the exercising. I have started walking, only started SW last week so only walked bout 4 times, even if its to the shop and bk 40-45 mins im hoping its some kind of exercise. I have just got a pedometer given free so gona start using that, including in the house!!
