Did I make the right choice?

Going for Goal!
If so, why do I feel so guilty?

I have been off work since thursday of last week with virus.

On sunday eve I had my last shake of the day and within 30 mins I was in the bathroom bringing it back up (sorry to be blunt)

Yesterday was pretty much the same. I got up with good intentions, and made a mix a mousse shake. I ate it and the same thing happened, i brought it back!

I had a nosey online and found that it could be the milky substance in the shake that my stomach is rejecting.

So I tried some dried food - 1 small bowl cereal (cornflakes) I kept them down. By mid afternoon I was starving, so reverted back to the shakes. To my suprise again I was unwell. So I had a dry bread roll. (hot dog style roll)

I've got up this morning feeling dreadful. Should I just have not had anything?

I haven't had a shake as yet, obviously I want to get back into ss but with being unwell I'm not sure what to do for the best.

I have also had strepsils for the past 3 days to help with my sore throat/coughing and I assume I would have knocked myself out of ketosis with these?

Not really sure what to do for the best...

Got my wi as well at 6.30. I usuallly stay and happily chat away, but i'm going to text my cdc to explain i'm ill, what packs I want and i hope i'll be in and out.

Hope someone will be able to advise and help - i don't know what to do! :sigh:

The milk in the cornflakes would be just as likely to upset your stomach as the milk in the shakes

The strepsils might not have knocked you out of ketosis, but the cornflakes and roll will have.

You also say that you have a virus, did you start CD pre virus or during? I would say its more likely to be the virus making you ill than the milk in the shakes. Thats just a guess though.

Is this vomiting a recent problem or have you had it since you started CD?

Hi Lexie,

I didn't have milk in the cornflakes, i just had the cornflakes.

As of tomorrow i'll be on week 6 of cd. it isnt cd making me ill. It's the virus without a doubt, so the vomiting is recent. It's just odd that its the shakes i bring back up.

But on CD is that not the only thing you are having - thus the only thing you can bring up? (unless you're not on SS and I'm totally wrong mind)

I would speak to your CDC, and perhaps try splitting your shakes in the interim to make it less bulk on your stomach/less traumatic.

yes lexie it is the only thing i am having - you are not wrong minded. Just not quite understanding what i am saying.

my point is i ate 'dry' foods yesterday and did not bring them back up, it seems the shakes that i bring back up. therefore did i do the right thing whilst i am ill in eating dry food that i was able to keep down, or with being ill shall i just skip food and shakes altogether until i am better.

Perhaps a cdc will be able to help me.

i think if dry food is what you could stomach whilst ill then thats what you had to do, i wouldnt worry - in the grand scheme of things you'll get back into ketosis and into the diet when your not unwell but i think you need to look after yourself in the meantime x

No Emma, you need to eat something, be it shakes or normal food. Its not healthy, especially when unwell to have nothing at all. You need some sort of sustenance.

Try splitting a shake to a half amount and see how you get on, but in the end your health is tantamount.

try moving onto the L/F shakes as you could have a problem with the milk in the shakes (not real milk I Know !!), Talk to your CDc she will explain it better x

Maybe it's because the shakes minerals etc are going straight into your empty tummy so a little strong or something? I'd say eat what stays down for now until you're better.. more important to stay hydrated and have something, anything, in your tummy. I'm no dr or cdc tho :)

I wouldn't worry about it Emma, this whole episode will only have set you back by a week, tops. It's not your fault that you're ill, just concentrate on doing SS again when you're better :)

I remember being on a Girl Guides trip when I was about 11 or 12 and everyone caught a stomach bug. The leader told us to eat dry foods- toast without butter, cereals and bread- and everyone could stomach it. I've no idea why, but it sounds like you're the same, keeping the dry stuff down. Sorry its no help though. Hope you feel better soon x

My little boy has just got over gastroenteritis and it's the milk that causes the problem - milk in anything - and with shakes they have milk in them, so this will no doubt be the problem, so yes for a few days it sounds like you do just need dry food. When my little boy had it (and my fiance and my mum - wasn't nice) my CDC warned me if I got it, to come straight off the shakes, and that I would have to have dry food, I would also try and avoid butter if you can though and have dry toast, as there is milk in the butter too, so yes you have done the right thing. My little boy was so severe with his, he ended up at hospital, and his intestines have become so bad that he is now lactose intolerant (hopefully temporarily, but because he's so little they won't test him again for about 9 months) Obviously I'm hoping yours wont be anywhere near as severe, but just wanted to tell you how his went and why the milk is so bad, and why it's the shakes that are affecting you x
