coffee?

Hi does anyone know if a cup of coffee with a wee bit milk would really sabotage my diet? I'm withdrawing from food and coffee so I had some today. Are there any other drinks such as bovril?

I think it depends on what plan you are following, ss+ allows you 200ml of skimmed milk a day.

Hi lynda, I didn't know that. I suppose you could do it every few days; it's still mega low calorie.
How are you today?
I think today's been hard. Prob cos it's Saturday and my life feels on hold with no food!
How have you coped?

Ha, as I type this my husband is sitting eating biscuits, the crunching is getting on my nerves - he snacks all day long (and he's thin), I cope by drinking water and today I've been on here lots to distract me.

I just keep saying to myself - I will be 9st by Oct, and keep the vision of my size 10 jeans at the forefront of my mind. I agree the weekends are hard.

If you have the booklet your CDC gave you, it will give you details of SS+. I think it might be better to do weeks at a time rather than days - chopping and changing might not be good.

Thanks for that info. Yes and October not too far away. That's my goal too. So let's keep talking and do it together.

I had skimmed milk in coffee from about week 3, and it made no difference to my weight. I only have about 2 cups a day though. x

Have you tried making black coffee then whizzing it up with some vanilla shake? that's what I had this morning, works for me!

Thanks folks for help. Might try the vanilla shake in coffee.

I asked my cdc about milk in coffee. She said as long as you only have a splast of milk, a few times a week it shouldn't make any difference.
When you think about the variation in cals between bars and shakes i.e. 170-odd for a bar and 137 for a tetra, a splast of milk really isn't anything.
I have had maybe 4-5 coffees (a week) with a little milk for the last couple of weeks and they don't seem to have effected me. x

This is interesting - now that I'm on SS+ I might try a couple of cuppas of tea to test how much I miss it! :) (I've only drunk skimmed milk for years anyway - as opposed to semi-skilled or whole milk - so it should taste OK to me.)

I can't be doing with black tea, I hate the way the tannin seems to cling to the inside of your mouth, it just doesn't taste like tea. I've been coping with black coffee, which has taken some getting used to. I drink it mild with a bit of sweetener, plus about ¼ teaspoonful of ground ginger, which sounds weird but it gives it a nice kick and takes away any bitterness. Give it a go! :)

Jaycey that sounds like a great idea, I'm going to try that tomorrow. Cheers!

the cappachino shake with a spoon or two, of coffee is good, but can i have 1/2 the packet and more water to do this twice a day, does anyone know x

Yes you can split the pack up and have it over the course of the day. :) I didn't like the cappuccino shake, as I like my coffee really strong and black.

That's one reason we're here - to swop ideas! :) Black coffee's quite nice with cinnamon too, but I got a bit bored with that, which is why I turned to ginger (which is also very good for us dieters - it speeds up the metabolism).

Read more about ginger here - Ginger and Weight Loss - Safe Slimming (UK) - and try it on porridge too! :p

is that cinnamon powder ? not a shake? sorry if thats a daft question, but i have some cinnamon in the cupboard and that sounds yummy. x
i love my coffee really strong to, so i add 2 big spoons to cappachino x

Yes, cinnamon powder - it's nice in/on nearly all the shakes actually (hot ones anyway). I also use nutmeg on vanilla shakes (egg custard! :p) and use a lot of mixed spice, especially on porridge.

I like your half-and-half cappuccino idea - will have to try that. I'm always looking for new ideas for that tricky 3rd meal on SS+. :)
