Question about becoming a CDC

I was just wondering if any one could tell me what the requirements are for becoming a CDC? Thank you

The requirements are as follows:

You must have completed at least 2 weeks on the plan, and have a BMI of 28. you will need to be sponsored by a CDC.

what does the training involve? and what is the cost? im thinking about doing it too!

the training is free of charge and you have to go to Northampton for the days ( 2 in total - 1 day and then a follow up day 3 months later), you will need to buy a business pack £75.00 and then your products. there are a number of modules that need to be completed and then returned before you can become an offical CDC but you can start your business about 2 weeks after the first course.

Hope that helps

Sizzlingjo this is great info. How do you approach your CDC though, doesn't it feel like you may be musseling in on there 'patch' or clients?

Without actually knowing the truth, I'm going to comment on what I suspect is their business model.

The more CDCs there are selling, the more CD makes from the products. I would then imagine CD encourages sponsership, and gives incentives (monatory or otherwise).

I think this would mean that CDCs are willing to sponser and don't think of it as encroaching on their patch. They may even feel like proud parents watching their offspring make it in the big wide world following in their footsteps :p

My CDC has offered to sponsor me, would like to do it, just dont have the time, they were really pushing me to do it, so i dont think they worry about you stealing their customers.

Mine has mentioned it to me, but i would like to do it in australia as i am moving back there at the end of the year. i dont know if i will have the time to train as one over here after goal or if i should just wait and train in Oz as it's a different diet over there with different steps.

Thank you all for the information you have given, my CDC said i should go for it when i reach 28 BMI, and she will sponsor me. I am self employed at the minute, so it would fit around my other work great, Roll on BMI28 lol. :)

Does anyone know if you can be a cdc part time and only have a few clients? Do cambridge make you buy a set amount of products? Its not so much about making money i would like to do it to a. help others just like me and b. it would keep me on the straight and narrow.

This is something I'm thinking about after I reach goal-my CDC mentioned that she thought I'd be good at it.

I think if your sponsor thinks you are the right sort of person then she will be more than happy to sponsor you, there are more than enough overweight people wanting to lose weight to go around.
Mine was more excited than me after my training day. :)
Although it will be fun, it is a business so a lot of legal and important stuff to learn aswell.
As for the partime thing, its your business so you can work when you like.

Interesting Badger, I take it you also need some kind of insurance too if you work from home?

My CDC has offered to sponser me too and we live in the same tiny village lol! Im a nurse and am keen to specialise in nutrition and diet so i think it would be good experience and also help me bump up my part time income. Soooooooo c'mon then how much can you potentially earn?? Lol it had to asked!!I have two children, so was wondering how I could manage it. My CDC has 4 kids around the house while Im there, and i take my two with me, would this usually be a problem??I hear some CDC's hire rooms etc and do set days a week, this sounds good if you have enough candidates?

You will have to have public liabilty insurance, in case a client is injured in your home.
You would also have to make sure that there is no local or property restraints on you running a business from home.
As for children running around, there was a thread recently about what people expect from a cdc, many people said that a CDC's children being present and interrupting sessions is one of the things they didn't feel comfortable with.

I am also considering the training as soon as my bmi drops a little more, I have a seperate space in my home which is an office, but have already given a lot of thought to how I would work it around my children. After all it is a business and it has to be fair on both the children and the clients.

I work on and off from home presently and think people often underestimate a business such as this. It really isn't a case of having a business on the side, even if just a few hours, the same regulations and restrictions and costs would often apply. For instance, if your child is sick, or off school, you might need childcare just the same as if you were working a fulltime job for an employer. As especially with CD where clients absolutely rely on seeing their CDC, appointments can't often be changed short notice.
I would imagine, it could also affect holidays etc...

Sounds very interesting though!
