What made you want to Slim Fast?

Hi everyone, I'm very new to Slim Fast and the forum and I've just been thinking about my reasons for changing diet YET again and my reasons for choosing Slim Fast.

I tried it last year for a week and lost 3lbs, but my heart just wasn't in it and I ended up puting the weight back on again. Now, I'm about 10lbs heavier than the last attempt and I'm determined to make it work this time. I feel like hiding away under my duvet cover because everytime I put some clothes on, all I can feel is the jeans digging into my love handles or my stomach bulging in my top.

Last year I was in a pretty bad relationship which ended with him telling me I was getting fat. Ever since then I've been trying to lose weight.. but to prove something to HIM. Now its time to do it for ME.

So what has triggered you to go on SF? And why did you choose it?

Hello pinkemma... thats a really good question you know. This is also my second attempt on Slim Fast and last time it went really well... I just went n had another baby which threw my last efforts right out the window!! Lol...
I definitely think you will do well this time cause it sounds like your heart is fully into it.
Oh and well done for finally doing it for yourself and not some guy who obviously just wanted to destroy your self esteem!!
I like slim Fast cause altho you do have choices in what you can have they are limited to the slim fast brand (accept your evening meal of course).. I tend to go off track if I have too much option... hope this helps. :)

I have done slimfast before and know it works as lost 3 stone on it before ( Bet ya all thinking why she back on it:p) well up till november 2007 i was working with horses, very physical job and didn't really watch what i ate but had a bad accident and had to change career for couple of years, lack of physical activity and me not reducing what i ate made me gain 3 stone:( tried cambridge but am now HEAVIER than ever been before so have gone back to slimfast as sooo easy:D, there are set rules for calories, and the shakes are easy and nice, and no point counting :p..i love slimfast and know it does work, just wish i went back to it sooner:eek:

RachyD - I agree, it really is good to have a 'plan' to stick to, where your calories are pretty much already counted out for you. And I'm loving the meal replacement bars! When my mum did SF back in 2007 they hadn't been brought out yet and she wasn't a fan of the soups. She always used to moan about not having anything to 'chew on' during her meals - so they are the perfect answer I think! Hope it goes really well for you this time around as well :)

DappyMare - You sound like you're in the right mindset for it, you can do it!! Your situation sounded like enough to make anyone stop watching what they ate. But if its had those results for you before, you'll do it again.

Thanks for sharing you guys, its interesting to read other peoples' stories :)

hi, i went for sf as you don't have to think much! i've tried loads of diets sw being the last but even though you could eat loads i struggled with eating something different and eventually got stuck in a rut and gave up.

sf is perfect for me as i am busy during the day and don't have time to think about food (much) and can have a ready meal with veg or salad, so easy.

i think too knowing that i can only have a certain amount in cals for snacks really helps as i can have anything i fancy so don't get bored.

Purely convenience. I never tried SF before and always scoffed at the commercials on TV. I originally started with a product called RightSize, which is basically the same as SF, but it was expensive, and I was hungry alot. I started SF whilst trying to tweak my caloric intake.. and it was loads cheaper. It's working for me so far. Not that I haven't had my trips and falls. Like today... my boss bought peanut butter filled pretzels. I've never had them. Seriously... they are awesome!!! :8855:

Peanut butter filled pretzels? Ooo yummy!!! I would def have had to make a sacrifice to try one.

Oh yea, I've never heard of them. But my boss loves peanut butter. She's had them before, and saw them in the cataloge for one of the places where we buy office supplies (they often sell snacks in bulk). I've been cursing her for two days now for buying them.

They are very filling too. 10 pieces is 110 calories... but I can't stop at 10!!!! :8855:

LR

are they like reese cups lr? i can't leave those alone when i get started either lol!

Well not really. Imagine a bite size pretzel... about the size of the 1st section/joint of your first finger... and it's filled with peanut butter. mmmmm...

LR

oooo reese cups!! Oh god im craving peanut butter now!! hee hee.

My reason is same as Sparkelwings, I didn't want to think about food anymore than I had too. i work with food. I get up and make packed lunches, I go to work and think about food, sometimes longer if meetings crop up! Then I come home and think about food for the families tea - I was constantly thinking about food! And I have just embarked on an NVQ/VRQ in healthy eating! So for me this takes all that away. I can now go to work and do the food and have my main meal there, I can come home and cook the family what they want without trying to figure out how to fit it into whatever diet plan I am following.

So for me its no no-brainer simplicity of slim fast that appeals.

Pinkyfluff.. sounds like the perfect reason! Slim fast really is the quick and easy way forward :) what does your healthy eating nvq/vrq involve? Is it similar to a dietician course?

hey all

sorry if I am posting in the wrong place. I have been reading this with interest.

I am thinking of starting slim fast. I just wondered do you get very hungry? I only lasted a week on lighter life before I passed out and i couldn't concentrate for how hungry I was.

Also is the weight loss the same as on any diet ie around 1 - 2 a week?

Finally can you do exercise on the diet? Sorry for all the questions and if this is in the wrong place...

thanks

You know, at first I was really hungry. I had problems with concentration and dizziness.. but I didn't start with SlimFast, I started with something similar, RightSize.

Now I will say that about and hour and half to two hours after drinking a shake or eating a bar, I will start to get hungry. I know they advertise for hunger control for up to 4 hours... but it doesn't last like that for me. And keep in mind, everyone is different.

Because I was constantly thinking about food, I really had to tweak the diet to fit me and my body. Because I have so much weight to loose, I can afford to eat more calories than recommended on the slimfast plan, and still loose weight. I had read a book by Paul McKenna "I can make you thin" and he was explaining research that diets as low as 1500 calories a day is like mini-starvation... as researched during the holocaust... and causes people to horde food, binge on food, steal lie and cheat to get it. And to think there are MANY diets out there that are much lower than 1500 cals. a day.

I couldn't completely devote myself to the ideas in the book as I was having sucess with slimfast... so I took the main one.. eat when you are hungry. and started adding snacks that are healthy. For example.. and I eat this almost every day... I have a bar within an hour of waking at about 6:45am... (supposed to eat within an hour of waking.. really supposed to revv your metabolism).. I can start to feel hunger at 8am. Usually around 9am, I would eat a piece of string cheese (50 cals) but as i have found that cough drops have curbed alot of my hunger... (had a cold for about 2 1/2 weeks...gah!) I haven't been having the cheese.

At 10:30, I eat two rice cakes (70 cals) and have lunch around 12pm. Which is a shake and a sandwich (the states version for lunch is a shake and eat an additional 200 cals... which is normally half a sandwich, but because I use light bread, I can have a full one)

I usually eat anthoer piece of cheese around 2 and a snack bar around 4ish.. dinner at 6pm.

So you see (and sorry for the long post).. everone and every body is different.. and it is a process to find what works for you.

The first week of loss might be big.. 5 lbs or more, but after that it is a tyical 1-3 lbs a week. And I have recently started exercising, so yes, you can :)

Wow LR that has really helped me with a few questions Ive had on my mind too... at least now I know that when I get to that hungry but not starving stage I can nibble on something light to stop me getting to the so hungry gonna eat anything I see stage! Thanks.
And well done on your progress, you're doing so well!

Hey,

My reasons for starting slim fast?? Oh there are so many:

1. I can't bear to look at my own reflection!!
2. I can't run around with my lil boy because i get out of breath.
3. I can't walk up a flight of stairs without getting out of breath.
4. Sex life is next to gone right out the window.
5. We never do anything anymore.

Me and my bf have been together since Nov '06 and used to go out every month and have a meal or have a few drinks at our fave pub but then we had a baby. Before i was a very loose size 14 and 12's were still a lil too tight, i am not blaming my pregnancy for this weight gain as it was all my fault. The first few months were dreadful food only had to touch my lips and i would throw up. Then the last 3 months i could eat anything and i did (anything and everything) but this didn't stop when i gave birth (4 weeks early), the night i came out of hospital we had a chinese!!!

We were living at my mums then but now are living in our own place. He used to say 'no we can't have sex your mums in the next room!!' so i thought as soon as we were in our own place we would regain our healthy sex life. But no, now he says 'i can't be bothered, i'm too tired or maybe later/the morning'. I try and arrange a night out and he says no we're too fat to go out!!! (he has put on a bit of weight since we got together too). But he goes out with his mates, not very often but he can with them and not with me. I am starting to think he is getting a lil embarrassed to be seen with me!!

Sorry to ramble on!! The main reasons to lose weight are, to be able to play with my baby in the park and not nearly die after lol, be able to have a proper relationship with my bf and be healthier and feel good about myself.

Good luck to every and again sorry for the long post lol.:)

Phew I'm glad I'm not the only one having problems in the bedroom department... mine however are because I don't like my husband seeing me naked like this...

I have three boys (first has just turned 4yrs, second almost 3yrs and third just 18weeks today) I've always been around the size 12 mark and managed it again with the help of SF after my second baby but third time round I got huge!!
I've done ok myself to a point I'm now in a size 14 but its a very snug fit... I just want to feel comfortable again lol.

Unfortunately my husband is tall and athletic (he is Jamaican) so dumpy lil me stood nxt to him looks ridiculous... thats why Im so determined!!

Hey MrsMe would your bf not consider joining you? How cool would it be to have an actual buddy in the same house as you, you could spur each other on then... even have a lil friendly competition!

Hey Rachy-D,

He did join me tuesday, I sent him to work with two pots of powder, 1pint of milk, some grapes, a yogurt and a banana. At lunch he rang me and said he was never going on a diet again and when he got home we had kebab:(. So that didn't work lol.

I know what you mean when you say that about being naked in front of your OH, that's why i like to get down to it a night when the lights are out lol, my bf prefers mornings when he has more energy lol. Not very often tho, maybe 1ce a month or if i'm lucky twice lol. I'm only 19 and bf only 24 and feel like an old married couple already lol. Like we have to mark in a diary or something lol.

Hopefully a few stone will make the difference lol.

Goodluck and keep me posted.
