Completing my food diary. It has been so hard. Anyone have any tips on getting by without it. I thought that I might complete one every other week instead until I get used to it.
What do you think.

Why aren't you doing a food diary?? Its the best way to keep track of what you've eaten and calculate syns etc. Plus its a good reference for seeing where you went wrong if you seem to be gaining.

But how long do they supply you with food diaries. is it just for a few weeks then you are expected to go it alone. i have just been designing my own one on the computer.

There are a couple of things you can do.

Firstly, you could complete a food diary on here - depends how you feel about 'going public' I suppose ..

Or you could complete one through the SW Lifeline Online - that is really good as it helps you with putting things in the right places A/B/syns etc

Or you could do what I did for a while, which is just note down A's B's and syns total in a diary/calendar etc and kno that everything else has to be free, but at least you are keeping an eye on the things that need to be 'limited'

hope that helps ..

It's easier for me to write one day as i go along then to keep jumping on the computer. As soon as i open the computer one of my two youngest want to go on here. blooming nusiance.

My consultant leaves a pile of food diaries on the side, in case we need them. Like Rachella said, just ask. I couldn't run my diet without them!

Hi,

Could you not get yourself a pocket sized notebook or something similar to keep with you? You could use that as your food diary and fill it in whenever and where ever you need to..
I have a small one that i keep in my handbag and just jot the foods down when i have had them - keeps me focused and on task.

Just an idea

I have a nice little handy-sized notbook I keep with me most of the time. I write things down as I eat them and I find it helps me immensely. It's actually easier than having the normal paper from class, I find.
I don't think I'll ever give it up, until I get to target! And then I'll try to wean myself off it, but it could be dangerous.

i have a nice pink and white striped one from tesco, will pop it in my bag when i get home. good idea

I didn't want to write down what I ate but started a food diary on here as a kick but I don't like it. Now I just keep a tab on the syns but keeping them in the calender in my phone.

I actually don't keepa food diary...I feel like I'm dieting if I do! I add my syns in my head and I know the plan like the back of my hand so just wing it on a daily basis :) Works for me but I can understand that it wouldn't work for everyone

I have a notebook, too big to carry round with me but fill it in the night before. I have a page every week to record any exercise I do, and put how I feel at the bottom of each page every day. I feel it's more structured, like a project, and with my memory!!!! ( it can be a bit selective sometimes)it helps me keep on track

I've kept a food diary for the last 2 weeks and put on half a pound in that time so I figure I'm better off not writing things down as it makes me think of food more! Its easy to keep track of your a's and b's and I tally the syns in my head. You could just write it down on a bit of paper, or ask your consultant for more.

Thats what i find, when i am writing the food diary thing i become a bit obsessed. i know that i have only been on the plan for three weeks but i can feel the obsession coming on. I have got my note book with me and like Judimac i think that i will write in there including how i am feeling to see if my food intake differs depending on my mood. thanks for all your replies.

Hi all, I keep a diary every day of all my food plus my exercise. It defo keeps me focused. Like Judimac says it's like my project. I'm going on holiday in a month and so I'm going to buy a smaller notebook, rather than all my sheets of paper.

Good idea. Whatever works stick with it. i am just going to trial the notebook and if it doesnt work well for me then i will do something else.

This is a fab idea - it's then good to see a pattern between what you eat, the amount you exercise and your weight loss for that week... I'm off to buy a nice little note book this lunch time :D

Hi Tara,
I kept a full food diary for almost a year - I couldn't live without it but I weaned myself off eventually.
My consultant says you only really need to count your syns as you know you've had A's and B's but I did like to write it down.

I have a little pocket note book which I have in my handbag, if I'm having a careful week or couple of days then I write down my A's B's and syns and also try to count my 5 a day too!

It does help to write down, it keeps you focused and does make you think about what you eat but I do agree with the comment about feeling like you are on a diet by writing it down!

Do what is best for you but bear in mind that you can't do it forever (although 2 years down the line I still do it from time to time!!) and SW does become so ingrained in your mind that you only need to count to 15 and you're sorted!!
