was thinking of trying some cookbooks to give me some ideas of experimenting with free foods can anyone recommend a good easy to cook book
been looking on ebay too for bargain books

I bought the SW books. I really like the Simply Summer book and the original recipes book, however, why don't you just google recipes with certain ingredients and adapt them to be SW friendly.

I didn't think much of the TV show "cook yourself thin" but I got the book out from the library and it's pretty good. There's a book by one of the authors on her own which I can't remember the name of (but if you look on amazon and search for the name of the one called Sophie it should come up) which is also good.

I also have one called the Use it All Cookbook which I like, it gives ideas of ways to use up leftovers (anything from leftover cooked chicken to a spare chilli) and some really good basic recipes for things like chicken stock etc.

I also like the little SW books with 100 sauces/green recipes/red recipes/etc, I think there are a couple more that I can't remember the names of. I'm not as impressed with the bigger SW books, they're ok, but don't seem worth paying so much more for, as compared to the little ones.

We use the Jamie Oliver Ministry of Food cookbook a fair bit - simple recipes but really tasty. And a quick switch of a few small ingredients usually makes the meals low syn or syn free on EE for me.

Alternatively, for free recipes, have you tried the Sainsbury's website? There's some really nice ones on there - punchy pork chilli is delish!

I wouldn't bother with buying a recipe book to be honest. There are so many online recipe sites that you don't really need to. I use the BBC good food website a lot.

most of the recipes can be changes slightly to make them free. The only oe we use religiously is a WW cury book, because it uses low fat natural yog which is free on SW so we can adapt it.

Plus an awful lot of the recipes in the SW books have already been in the magazines. I just adapt recipes from my normal books.

I agree with all those who said to adapt recipes you find elsewhere, the Ministry of food one is one of my favourites, but I really find it so easy to change a basic recipe into a sw friendly one. It also makes me happy that I can change my eating habits for good doing it that way, rather than having "diet" food then going back to eating normally and putting weight back on. Remember recipes for savoury things are not as scientific as baking recipes, use them as a starting point and change them to use things you and your family like. It should be fun experimenting :)
