Question about Ketosis

I asked this on the main CD forum but thought I'd ask the 100%ers as well.

Hi peeps! I was wondering, I know it takes about 3 days to get into Ketosis when you start CD but does it take the same time if you've had a week of SS and then eat a carby meal and then get back on SS? Does it take as long to get back to ketosis? I hope I'm making sense... lol.

The reason why I'm asking is that I lost 2st for my wedding and got down to 9st 10lbs and went on my honeymoon. On honeymoon I didn't follow CD at all and just ate and drank what I liked for 2 weeks (OMG). On the day we got back to London, I went straight to my CDC and weighed in at 10st. Had my second weigh in yesterday, after a week, and lost 6lbs which got me down to 9st 8lbs (wooo hooo!!!) but I had my parents for dinner and couldn't explain why I wasn't eating when I'm already "skinny" so I ended up having some lasagne.

So I was wondering if it would take another 3 days to get back in ketosis or if it takes a shorter amount of time as I only have a meal's worth of stored carbs....

I want to stick to SS until I'm just under goal (9st 4lbs maybe) so I have some allwance for blips as I move up the plans. Gosh I do ramble lol. I'd appreciate any help!

Getting into ketosis all depends on your stores of glycogen.... if you generally eat loads of carbs and have high stores and lots of fluid retention, it might takle you longer... most people reach ketosis day 3/4 some earlier some later...

If you eat carbs after ss'ing... then you need once again to deplete these stores to get back into ketosis so it doesnt usually take as long...
The problem is, when you 'fall out' of ketosis after a carby meakl, all the hunger comes flooding abck and it can take a lot of extra effort to get back into it than the first time...

Anyway.... just put the lasagne behind, you , drink loads of water which helps to flush the system and just move forward...

Well done on your losses by the way :)

I got into ketosis after day one, really it depends how many carbs you normally eat and how much glycogen you have stored.

One lasagne isn't going to make you store a huge amount of glycogen, so it will probably take about a day to get back into ketosis. However every time you slip up and have a carby meal, you have to go through the hunger and difficulty of getting back into ketosis, so try not to have too many slip ups as you're making things harder for yourself!

Put this incident behind you and stick to your SS plan, you'll be back in ketosis in no time at all :) xx

Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate your advice. I'm so glad to hear that it won't take as long as 3/4 days to get back into ketosis. I've been 100% the whole time on CD except during my honeymoon and last night (humpf!) and strangely enough I didn't feel any hunger or discomfort going back to SS. I haven't even had a headache the whole time I've done CD! Thank goodness for that.... Maybe I'm of the blood type that thrives on high protein....? But that's another story lol. Thanks again gals!

Hey, you shouldn't be doing SS as your BMI is already under 25. I think you should be doing 810 to preserve your lean muscle.

I agree with sbridge, you are already thin, especially for your height, being in ketosis will just eat your muscle away. You need to start going into the maintenance plan.

This is a great thread for me to read. I am new to Cd ss, started on weds so on day 4. I have to go out for dinner tomorrow as its been planned for ages for my Mums 60th. I am only going to have 1 meal & will try to keep the carbs to a minimum, I was unsure what one meal will do. I will however be straight back to 100% ss on Monday as today I have felt great and not hungary and must be in ketosis.
Thanks for the advice.:)
