I was wondering how you all have decided your targets?,
I've been using the NHS BMI tool on the net to gage my progress At the moment at 5'5 and weighing 12st 12 i've a bmi of 30.9 (overweight/obese borderline) so i've been experimenting and to get into the middle/upper range of BMI for a healthy weight i should aim to be 9st 7 with a BMI of 22.
So i need to loose over 3 stone more...I'm no skinny minny but that seems alot!?
How are you girls/guys gageing your ideal target weight ??

Having yo-yo-ed for all my life :( I am aiming for a weight that I was able to maintain. I maintained it for over 2 years once and only started to gain again when I got married for the 2nd time.

Subsequently (in 2000) I got down to over 1.5st below that but couldn't maintain it and ended up at 15st 9.5lbs trying!!

So this time I think I'm being more realistic. x

Well I dont trust all these sites because for me they reckon 9 st and I would be ill if I ever got to that weight. I have a fairly big frame and dont want to lose my curves too much. But I was looking on ww site earlier and they had a section called "whats a healthy weight for you?". This gives you a bracket rather than a specific weight. My target weight I have given myself is what I weighed once a upon a time.Check out the link below and at least you can get an idea.

I am aiming to get to 10.10 which is just in the healthy BMI rate. I am 50 so dont want to be skinny, but ideally I would like to be around 10.3 cos I have been this weight before and felt fantastic. Currently have about 7 pounds to lose before I meet the first target.

Hmmm, i lost weight with SW after i had my son and got to 11 st 11, felt great but looking back at the pics realise i was still podgy, lol, good advice Jan i guess its finding somewhere where we comfortable...

thanks i'll take a look at it, the nhs bmi tool is pretty good the 9st 7 is middle of the healthy range, which i thought would be good incase of adding a couple of pounds lol

just checked the site it gives me the range of 8 st 8 to 10st 10, maybe i'll get to 10.10 and see what i look like xx

Hey

Sometimes I think BMI is silly. My partner a is 6 ft rugby player, really muscular and so,so healthy trains nearly everyday and is 17 stone and classed as obese!! I really want to be at my pre pregnancy weight of 10 stone 10 ish and i will still be classed as overweight, even though back then i wore size 10 jeans!

Being comfortable is the most important so good luck hun :D.

I am 5'6, have 'Italian' hips lol... so i am going for the top of the normal range in the bmi index.. around 10.10,, although I have alked to my pharmasist about going for 10.5 to give me that bit of leway ifykwim.. hopefully I will get there... my pharmasist was going on about how many people she has coming in that have unrealistic goals and it is better to be realistic.. i also want to get to the weight I was before my first child.. which was around 11 stone.. and would be happy at that.... however on day six today and felt so weak and slept all afternoon from 3-8.. I had a small bit of chicken breast instead of a shake.. and will have half a shake in an hour or so to keep my minerals up.. not recommended by many but you do what you have to do, partner was getting worried... but no more slip ups for me, another 6 weeks or so then refeed hopefully.. alredy my clothes are way looser in just 6 days and my loss is noticable.. so onward and downward lol xxx

Years ago when i was 19(17 years ago,and before kids!), i was 9 stone 11lbs, and at 5ft 6 i was told that i looked like a walking corpse!, so i am aiming for 10 stone 10lbs and then going to go from there. I have a large bust 38ff!, even though i had a breast reduction when i was 20!, so i don't know whether they will shrink, they havn't so far with 2 stone down, and if i got too low i would look like Dolly Parton, not a good look!

I'm aiming for 10st 5lbs, which puts me half a pound into the normal range. (I'm 5'4") I'm 55 and don't want to look gaunt.
At the moment I'm wearing size 12s, which are very comfy, bordering on loose, the Pharmacist said that waist measurement is sometimes a better guide. I used the BMI scale, but will have a look at the WW one now, thanks.

As im only little....4 foot 10ins....they reckon that i should be 6st 12 - 8st 8lbs......i am now 9st 6lbs and i feel great, i have found a nice weight to be at.....i told my hubby what the online calculators reckon i should be and his words were "I married a woman not a little boy, youve lost some of your curves now, can you imagine what you would look like that small......no thanks," says it all really.....dont take no notice of those calculators...bloody rubbish! xx

Hello all :)

wow I just checked out what my healthy weight should be according to WW website! At 5ft5 I should be between 8st8 and 10st10 :wow: and im kinda gobsmacked!!! :hmm:

I'd be happy to get back down to 10stones! Which to me seemed like the lightest I'd ever been (as an adult) Last time I was that "light" was back in 2004. :sigh:

So because of this being a VLCD should you aim to get to a lower weight then you want to be - just in case of weight gain on refeeding?? Or have I got that wrong??

I set myself a target to be in the middle of what would be a healthy bmi for my height which was a weight of 10st 4lbs. I am also using my waist size as a guide and most recent advice says that your waist size is actually a better indicator of your higher risk of diseases such as cancer because of the fat around your organs. So may settle for a slightly higher weight if measurements are good. Women should have a waist size of 30" or less. At the moment I have a long way to go but so far my waist size has gone from 54 to 49" so heading in the right direction xx

I'm with Jan on this one. I think you need to get to a weight that you feel that you can comfortably maintain. I've never seen the point of people dieting to the extreme, becoming really slim and having to eat side salads for the rest of their lives lol. I know its all about healthy eating, but that means enjoying food too, i dont want to have to tell myself no everytime i want a treat. Just 90% of the time :)

The bmi thing is sooo up the wall its crazy. I'm 5ft8, size 16 and 14st 12lbs. The NHS site reckons for healthy bmi i should be 9-10 stone. Over another 4 stone! That definately isn't happening and personally i think i'd just look ill at that weight!! I love my curves (and so do the men lol) so i'm aiming for 12 stone to be hopefully a size 12 but when i get to 13 stone i might stop...its so hard to know until you get there and try isn't it!xx

Hadn't thought about the waist measurements, i took my measurements 7 weeks ago will go and dig them out see what the difference, thanks for the advice etc, i think instead of looking on a graph etc i'll go by how i feel and what those closest to me think x

I can't stand BMI unless you fit within the group it's based around it just doesn't give an accurate idea of what you should weigh. (Like has already been mentioned, if it classes a rugby player as obese exactly how accurate can it be for the rest of us?)
I go by body frame/weight. It gives you a good idea of what's a good weight for your size, not just height. Going by BMI I should be aiming for around 55kg but I know I'd look stupid like that because I've always had a large frame and that's just too thin for me to look healthy.
In the end it should be what you personally feel is right for you. If you're comfortable with the way you are then I don't think you should have to go any lower (or higher) just because some scale told you to.

Stop at what you think is a comfortable stage for yourself. I dont tend to go by nhs bmi, if i was down to at least 10.5 stone I would be extremley happy. Everyone is different in how easy they are going to lose the weight. Dont start setting yourself far off goals cause its only going to make ya break the diet. Gud luck

i looked at BMI, saw the top of healthy weight was 10.5 stone for my height. So I've set my goal at 11 stone (lol) as losing 8.5 stone sounded so much better than losing 9 stone!!

To be honest, as I get closer to goal I'll just see how I'#m feeling, how clothes are fitting and how I look. I may possibly stop before 11 stone, but i may also choose to go further. Can't imagine wanting to be under 10 stone though, it all seems so far away. I don't want to be skinny or to have people tell em i look gaunt/ill!

I've asked slim friends what they weigh, but everyone's different so it's not all that helpful. For instance, no one can believe i started as big as 19.5 stone.
