if we put weight back on with the glycogen in the blood then does that meen we need to lose more weight than the weight we want 2 be cos we will put weight back on with the glycogen or am i gettin this rong

i meen i want 2 be 18 stone so do i need 2 go 2 17 and a half 2 allow for the glycogen weight that gets put back on?

if any 1 could point me in the right direction 2 anser this or has the anser that would be a reely good help

any 1 any ideas?

the forum seems a bit slower today urban. Im sorry I dont have your answer but I think the way it works is that if you introduce the carbs slowly back into your routine the weight wont go back on. even so, you will probably have to watch the amount of carbs you take in for the rest of your life (which isnt a bad thing). Im going to try for 4-5lbs under target because I know Im a carb lover(but can control it) i like the odd treat(when im not on a VLCD) and want to allow for it. The only way I can see doing this is to go under by a few pounds coz I retain water very badly, (but not too many pounds).

well thanx for the reply im not shour if any1 will no hope they do tho if any 1 does have any ideas just let me no

Hey hun I think as wellandgood said as long as you refeed properly and bring the levels up gradually you shouldnt put on any weight, if you look at the refeed diarys people are still loosing weight when they refeed. I will probably go under target by a few pounds to be on the safe side though lol :)

but i thort we had 2 build gylcogen back up so if we have to builde it back up wouldnt that meen we would have to put weight back on? thats what i dont get

i was told by pharmesaes that you got to follow the refeed to the tea and then mentain and he will then see what my weighings are if i start to put weight back on then hes going to give me more lp than food but i think if you follow it throught and then mentain right you can still loss weight if you dont add the carbs back into your refeed the right way then you can have a bigf weights gain yes

Eeek. I don't think so. After LT, you should be able to eat a balanced diet and not have to restrict any healthy food groups including carbs.

My understanding is that the refeed programme is specifically designed to build up those glycogen stores gradually precisely so that you don't put on a load of weight suddenly.
So the answer to your question would be no - you don't need to aim lower in order to end up at the weight you want. x

Actually that is what i meant KD. Not to restrict carbs but to eat the healthy ones within balance. There must certainly be a limit to the amount of carbs in any healthy diet. just as there is a limit to sugar and salt etc... I will crtainly be watching my carbs (and other things0 for the rest of my life. this is what got me into trouble in the first place. sorry if I confused anyone:wave_cry:

Yay for healthy carbs :D Picking up on your point about carbs. People rarely have a problem with overeating carbs, it's more to do with what they put on them, so it's usually better to watch the additions to the carbs for weight control. After all, how many of us have overeaten dry toast, or sauceless pastas.

When maintaining, a good aim is 55% of calories from carbs, 30% fat, 15% protein :) (without being obsessive about it;))

well thank you all for the info but still if we builde are glycogen stores back up we must put weight back on even if we do builde them up slowly we still have to builde them up

Urban, It is not whether we build up the glycogen stores all over again, it is how our body processess them. Dont forget, most of that is water weight not fat. That is why LT helps us get control of that. when you go back to refeed and maintain, you should be more aware of how your body works with what you eat. After a little experimenting in the maintanance period, you will be able to find a comfortable place where you wont put weight back on and you MAINTAIN. That place is probably different for evryone. So, no,, you wont put weight on if you build up your glycogen stores within your personal zone, if that were the case we wouldnt have any success stories such as KD on here(who is fab btw)...If you chose to go back to the same habits as before your LT course, then of course you will pay the price in weight. You have to change the MIND_SET too!!. Good luck, I believe your question has been answered by all of us. Balance is the key...:wave_cry::D:D

Well, it does matter if you don't want to put on the glycogen weight once you get to goal.

Aww, thankyou. Do me best :D

I know what you mean. Yes, you do have to build you glycogen stores back up if you want to have some sort of normality with your eating after the diet.

With Cambridge (not trying to push Cambridge here:eek:, but using it a way to explain how it can be done!)...the first few weeks refeed introduce calories and carbs. The calories stay low enough for most of the time to continue to lose weight, whilst the raising of carbs (glycogen gain), means a gain in weight. These then equal out, though for many, there will still be some loss, so people tend to start doing this just before goal.

As the calories raise, the metabolic rate does likewise. You end up on 1500 calories, no weight gain, glycogen replenished.

Now, it seems that LT go much quicker with this process...which is much more fun :D, though it appears that a gain on the scales could possibly be more likely, so my logic tells me that it could be better to aim for a goal a little under your original goal to give you some leaway for this.

But I'm no expert in LT, so you really need to discuss this with your pharmacist. Just explaining the mechanics of how the glycogen can be replenished without the weight gain on the scales.

Of course...after LT, I'll go along with everything wellandgood has said :)

My pharmacy 'target' is 1/2 stone less than my 'real' target to give myself a bit of lee-way anyway (for holidays, meals out, functions etc. etc.). I think once you get to your target of 18stone, you'll be so thrilled you'll set yourself a lower one anyway!

thank you for all the great replys its reely helped i asked me pharmicist today and she sat down with me and explained it
i was findin it a bit hard to understand at first but now i understand so thank you all

I had a similar question to my pharmasist..

I was worried that because the glycogen that we have lost isnt really fat.. was this then in a way a false weight loss?

I asked the pharmasist and he said no... Weve probably had to much in our systems.. and by following the refeed correctly and sticking to a healthy and balanced diet afterwards we wont see a gain..

I like KD's words of how it balances itself out with a loss of fat but a gain in glycogen.. this makes the most sense to me!

Ive been refeeding for a month and have been losing still, even after the pharmasist took my off LT shakes all together and I was eating breakfast..

Being easter and getting bought lots of eggs for presents, I was having a bit of chocolate everyday and I maintained my weight for a week..

It wasnt until after a this weekend away where I must admit because we were eating out etc (and I didnt want to be the bore who made everyone else suffer about not eating out) I allowed myself to let go a tad for the weekend.. mostly paninis (but the way they came was either covered in mayo and cheese etc), lasange and garlic bread.. and I had chips and pizza and alot of crisps and needless to say alot of alcohol lol :)
I gained 3lbs from this weekend..

I think it is mainly a balance of allowing yourself a little bit of a treat, but making sure everything else your eating is healthy is the most important thing!

thats how me pharmacist explained it an its clearer now i just wernt gettin it at the start but i get it know about the lower calories while building up the carbs
