Hi,

I am having an awful time with food at the moment. I am eating for the sake of it and just generally comfort eating.

I need to lose weight for the sake of my health, i have 2 stone to lose and this will make a great impact on my body and mental health.

But the thing is i don't know where to start, i have been eating so much rubbish lately that the thought of cutting it all out is quite scary. I have done SW before (lost 5 lbs after Christmas) and i have also lost with WW in the past. So i know what i should be doing, but the actual 'doing it' is my problem.

Can anyone please give me some motivation, pepe talk whatever you have got please aim it in my direction. Thanks very much in advance!

Hello...

Firstly I'd say, your head has to be in the right zone for you to lose weight. Plenty of us want to do it, but you have to be in the right frame of mind for it to actually happen.

It's not scary, cutting out the rubbish and embarking on a healthy eating regime...it's EXCITING! You're going to be doing positive things for your body, your mind and your life. You'll be improving your health, which you say would make a massive difference to your life. It's a cliché that's trotted out a lot, but it's true...nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

So why aren't you doing it already!?! ;)

You've got all the info. Go back to it. Study it as if you're a total beginner. Follow the plan to the letter. It will work for you and you'll start losing. Slowly or quickly the weight will come off. You'll be getting slimmer, feeling better and it will spur you on to continue!

Hi hon..

Firstly, I've been where you are. Knowing and doing are two different things and the one thing you need to remember is that you have to WANT to do it, otherwise it won't work.

What you could do, as a start off, is look at the reasons that you're comfort eating. What is making you reach for those foods which you consider to be 'bad'?

Also, as you've done SW in the past, you know that you can eat what you want to eat, still, but you just need to be more aware of what you're doing.

What is a typical day's food for you atm hon?

No specific advice, just a general mantra of:

Go easy on yourself- eating too much doesn NOT make you a bad person
Slow and steady wins the race- aim for realsitic and achievable targets
Rather than focusing on the negatives, look towards the positives (you seem to have made a start on this with your focus on health and mental wellbeing benefits!)

Most of all, you CAN do this.

Wishing you all the courage and will in the world

^^ fabulous replies.

You really do need to be in the right frame of mind.

Losing weight will spur you on. You can do it. Just take your time - don't expect miracles, and you will be surprised - I think the secret of losing weight is not to beat yourself up when you 'fall off the wagon', to just think 'it happens' and get back to it the next day! ;)

I used to be the biggest piggie imaginable, I would raid the cupboards every night even if I wasn't hungry and gorge on biscuits. Now it wouldn't even occur to me and I can enjoy a TV programme without snacking on junk. It feels great. If I can do it anyone can hun

I don't have any specific advice other than to say you can do it & once you start you will feel so much better in yourself - do you have any of the recipe books? If you don't I am sure loads of people will post recipes for you to make which will be much healthier for you - I posted a recipe at the weekend for a fat free sponge cake which is only 9 syns for the whole cake so you could sit & comfort eat the lot if you wanted to, there are also the scan bran cakes you could make - my favourite is the sticky toffee pudding one, it is only 1 B choice & 6 syns & I make that & eat the lot when I need some comfort food.
Good luck & hope it all works out for you

Thanks for the replies.

I agree about needing to be in the right frame of mind, when i quit smoking a few years ago i managed it because i was in the right 'zone' to do it.

My eating habits at the moment are what they were before i started SW last time, skipping breakfast and then eating biscuits before dinner time. Eating a sandwich for dinner then starting on the biscuits again even though i am not hungry.

I am hopeless at drinking water, i am often thirsty but eat instead! :sigh:
I am trying to change this bad habit as i know this will be beneficial to me in many ways.

Seeing it written down i feel silly now, i know what i need to do, so i have no excuse as to why i am not doing it!! So why aren't i!!!!

Everything is easier said than done - I know I should be exercising but instead I have been for a soak in the bath & am now sat it my PJ's reading the posts - every week I tell myself I will start on Monday but don't.....so don't give yourself too hard a time over it, no-one is perfect

Thanks Julie19.

That is something i need to work on aswell as the eating habits, been hard on myself is second nature at the moment. lol

I have hardly done any exercise either, i did spend 3 full days on my feet decorating the stairs last week so hopefully that burnt off some of the rubbish i have had. :p

You having a bath and reading on here has kept you out of the fridge though, so what you didn't exercise, you haven't spent the night munching either.

* Goodnight everyone, thanks again for replying and giving your advice. I have a glass of water in my hand and a hope that tomorrow will bring better food choices and a determination to change. x
