......until I start work and I still don't fit into my new size 16 trousers.

What am I going to wear if I don't lose enough to fit them?!

Is your top long enough to hide the fact that they don't fasten?
If it is, put some elastic through the button hole and loop it round the button.
They'll fit you so quickly it's not worth getting any bigger ones to keep you going.
