Calorie intake for maintenance

Yasmine

One last chance
Hmm... this has been on my mind for weeks.

I know that when you refeed, your calories have to rise very steadily and carefully until your glycogen levels rise to normal.

Now, for females, our recommended calorie intake is 2000 calories and for males it's 2500. Do any of you mainteners take in 2000 calories or are you still living on really low calorie intakes?

Kinda makes me think and feel, something won't be normal. That I won't really be all that normal when it comes to eating. I know it sounds silly and you guys probably won't get what I mean, but, well you know :)

Hey there, my calorie intake is around 1600/1700. It will vary from person to person depending on how active you are, age, height, weight etc. I think it is generally considered that the guidelines of 2000 and 2500 are generous as they have not been revised for many many years and people used to lead more active lives than we do these days.

Gx

Oh I see! So, for my age and height etc, I should take in as many calories as it says?

Seems fair enough. I wonder if they have a calculator, but for teens. Teens are always hard to find.

Thanks Porge :D

emmm I dont calorie count

How do you work out how many calories are in something?

The calorie level will be printed on the nutritional information. It may be seen as calories or Kilojoules. Though need to rmemeber that a muffin is about 1800 calories while a piece of bread can vary from 40 weight watchers to 120 for the nice stuff.:(

You should by yourself this book called The Calorie, Carb and Fat Bible: The Uk's most comprehensive calorie counter. It has every single UK food product, the latest brands in food etc. Has all it's nutrition informaton in it. I'm going to by this book so when I eat again I can start calorie counting.

You could also try this website, it's pretty good with calories too.
Calorie Counter - calories in food and calorie counting to lose weight

OMG I knew that couldn't be right *phew*

Yeah, 320 that's no surprise LOL.

I think it was meant to say 180 for the muffin, I was sticking to 1750 which seemed to work for me until xmas happened.

Hiya, if ur worried about ur calorie intake there is a place that u can go and have tests done which tells u how many caories ur body is using in 24hrs, u can then get a meal plan which is tailored to ur bodies needs, this may help until u r confident about portion sizes etc xxx
Just wanted to say that u will probably be able to do this (calorie intake test) at any clinic that offers something called 'alizonne therapy' which is a weight loss therapy programme xxx

I had a book recommended by my Pharmacist, its called 'Calorie Counter' and the author is Dr Wynnie Chan. It only cost £3.85 and that was including delivery, I bought it from Amazon, its really good.

Yasmine,

Thanks for asking the questions. It's a worry for me for when I restart eating again.

I have no idea of normal portions as that's why I got into this state in the first place !!!!

Hi,

on my refeed i have the had this amount of calories each day so far.

before refeed I was on 560 cals a day (2 shakes a day)

1st day on refeed 595 cals (1 maintanice shake, 1 maintanice bar and a greenleaf salad with chicken)

2nd day on refeed 1016 cals (1 maintanice shake, & green leaf salad x 2 with smoked salmon and chicken, + tea & coffee with skimmed milk)

3rd Day on Refeed 1004 cals (1 x maintanice shake, greenleaf salad with smoked salmon, Stirfry with prawns and mushrooms in stirfry sauce, tea & offee with skimmed milk)

tomorrow
4th day on refeed 1112 cals (1 x lipotrim maintanice shake, seasonal salad with wiltshire ham & balsamic vinagar, sweet & sour mushroom & Prawn stiryfry.

hope not to go above 2000 cals a day after refeed which is low for a bloke.

I went on that site I think, my trial ran out XP

You are correct that 2000 is about average however to work out exactly what amount is right for your body, do consider your BMR BMR Calculator

Using a site like weightlossresources.co.uk will also help you to track your calories in/out but be warned I think their calorie estimates are a bit on the low side.
Oh, ok, thanks for the links. I'm going to buy myself the updated calorie counter for 2009. I think that's my most reliable source.

Oh god I know what you mean! I'm sure looking at a 'normal' portion will look like a babies bowl.

My mother always made lots of food and always made me finish what was on my plate, and this was a must. This was one of the reasons I stayed fat.
