Help... Which diet?

Hello

A bit new to all this so I am looking to get a bit of advice.

I am a 29 year old man who is looking to lose around 3 stone, I currently weigh just over 15 stone and have slowly putting on weight in my 20's.

I love food and enjoy cooking, my biggest weekness is beer so I am looking for a diet where I can still enjoy a few beers with my friends at the weekend but be a good boy during the week :innocent0002: .

What would people recommend, I am currently thinking Slimming World as I could save up my syns for the weekends. What is the main differences between SW and say WW.

I am a little nervous and to be honest scared about joining a weekly WI group by myself so I am not sure whether a subscibtion on-line would be better.

One advantage of attending a weekly group is that it would help keep up my motivation and be a good source of information and support. Those that go to SW or WW do you tend to get many men join up.

If anyone can offer any advice or answer some of my questions I would be very thankful.

I'd definitely recommend slimming world, as you like cooking. There's hardly any weighing and measuring, and you can save syns for your weekend beer. You can eat as much 'free food' as you need, so you don't need to ever go hungry. Weightwatchers is much more weighing and measuring and pointing everything. I've done ww in the past, and I really felt like I was on a diet and deprived.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Hi welcome to the forum. I'm with Dehli on this one, I'd reccommend SW too. you can eat loads, experiment with cooking different recipes and still have all the things you like - such as beer!

Hi,

Whatever you decide, I wouldn't worry about joining a group. I have been to both SW and WW and there were men at both. Okay, only a couple, no where nearly as many men as women but they are there. And it's the weight loss that's the common factor not gender, so you'll be made to feel really welcome.

Take care and good luck.

Thanks everyone for the encouraging replies, I am joining slimming world on Thursday.

Again many thanks.

Id definitely recommend WW. Contrary to what people seem to say, I can honestly say Ive never been hungry on WW. I dont feel as if Im on a diet, as I can eat anything within my points. I tried SW but felt it taught me nothing about portion control and I found it very restrictive.

I love the fact that nothing is off limits on WW, so you dont have the 'forbidden' element that other diets have. You can also have a healthy social life on WW. Most restaurants if not in the Eating Out Guide have kcals & sat fat details on their websites so a night out doesnt mean a night off your diet and if you fancy a McDonalds - go for it. I love being able to take my niece to KFC for dinner and to be able to eat with her & know Ive made a sensible decision and I can incorporate it with my days allowance.

Good luck and look forward to seeing how you get on.
