Clothing size chart?

louiser

Trying very hard!
As i'm loosing weight I have no idea what clothes size I am. I worry about trying on different clothes as I dont want to get disheartened.
Does anyone know of a clothing chart to look at? I'm after one where you look at your measurements and read off what clothing size that makes you?
I found one in the back of a clothing catalogue but if said I was a 20, I was a 22 when I started and have now lost 3.5 stone and my 20 trousers are hanging off me.
I'm just looking for a heads up really so I know what to start trying on in shops!

Thank you,
Louise

I don't have anything I can link you to but most shops have size charts on there web-sites, I know most of the major chains like dorothy perkins etc do.

I wouldn't get to hung up on these charts on some of these charts I should be 2/3 sizes bigger than what I actually am.

Well done on your 3.5 stone, i think you have to try on a few sizes i find that i could be in the same shop and even the different styles of certain clothes alter in their size, dont be disheartnened you must think how fab it is to have your 20's hanging off you, try a 16 and 18 just see how it goes even if you have to pick up 3 different sizes you will only have to do it once, then you'll know for the next time. Good luck

as your so tall, i'd say the clothing charts won't apply much to you anyway, i'm short so the don't work for me either........
go out with a mate and try on things from your size when you started and work your way down...... i started as a tight 18 and am now a loose 16, and i've lost 2 stone so far.......... had a panic the other day when some 16's were really tight, till i realised they were 14's.......i laughed so hard i nearly split them........ go have some fun as you've done brilliantly

lol Biltsy now THAT is a funny scene you nearly splitting a 14 in joy!! lol Did you buy them though!! I hope so! :D

I tried on a dress the other day just to 'confirm' I was a 16.. I considered getting it for a wedding in 2 months but had to remind myself it'll be too big then! :) I HOPE!! lol

I don't know how the size charts work, I guess you could look on ebay at clothes for measurements etc and then add your own, but having bought jodphurs in the past by waste sizes I know how much they can vary and not be what you measure yourself at.

Thank you for your replies, I've always had a fear of clothes shopping! I'm hoping this will change when I get to goal!

I see what you mean by the height thing and it prob wont give anything accurate! I just worry that if I go in a shop and try on a 18 and its too tight I'll get really upset! I think I'll just keep going for now and only go when I NEED to get something!

I saw friends yesterday though who told me I was doing really well but said what are you going to do now then?! I sort of said, well carry on going! When they asked now much more I had to loose and I said three stone they thought there was something wrong and I would be then too thin! Its better sometimes if people keep their thoughts to themself! A bit worrying sometimes!

Thank you for your help, wish me luck for the shopping trip! xx

buy some cheap clothes from ebay then, that way its not expensive and if one type comes up small, you'll fit in it really quickly, or if too bug re sell it on ebay...... my OH has been buying me clothes as pressies for my Weight loss and so far most have fitted, and the ones that are a bit tight, i'll fit in really soon.... simply be online comes up good on the sizes too and you can return them too

remember though, some shops sizes come up small/large so dont be too disheartened.

i would start with a 20, to judge how big they are on you, then work out how low to go!

have fun chick ;)

Well done on your fantastic weightloss so far!

I would take a long a friend and go somewhere that is not shared dressing rooms and have some fun....if you choose a day when the shops aren't busy you probably find the sales assistants will join in!

I see your in Northamptonshire....if your near Northampton what about Riverside? or if you have transport treat yourself to a trip to Centre MK?

Hi! Yeah, I'm in Kettering, shops are not that great here!
I work on Riverside so can always keep popping over at lunch, that way I wont get worked up that its a 'big' shopping trip if you know what I mean!
I love MK shopping so I will deffo work up to that, decided I'm going to shop 'properly' rather than order out of the catalog for now!

It's a case of try on, try on and try on again - as all shops are different! The size chart we still use was invented in the 1950s and is well overdue for an overhaul imho (our body types have changed so much since then, due to diet & nutrition and hormones in food, etc.) - anyone who does dressmaking will know how bizarre the measurements are (and how you have to customise everything you make!). Shops get round sizing by just doing their own thing (e.g. Wallis, whose sizes always seem to me to be half a size bigger than everyone else).

Although I'm roughly an 18 (currently fitting into some 16s, yay!) I have clothing in my wardrobe ranging from a size 12 to a size 22 - and it all fits me!
