calorie counting question

Hiya everyone, just wondered if i could join u all???

i was doing slimfast for a couple of weeks but as i only have a bit to lose i thought it would be more sensible to eat proper foods so i dont put it all back on when i come off sf!

im not really sure exactly how many calories i consume each day, my usuall day is

bran flakes with skimmed milk (about 160 cals)
one cup of tea (two sugars and skimmed milk - i just cant have it without!! - about 50 cals)
healthy carb based lunch (i.e. porridge, noodles, tuna pasta, wholegrain sandwich etc. not more than 350 cals)
WW yoghurt (around 50 cals)
a carb free dinner (fish with veg, chillie and salad, meat and veg, chicken salad)
options hot chocolate and a snack a jack or two.

i dont really know if this is good or not?? im very petite, 5 ft tall and dont really need to lose weight, just doing it for body confidence for the summer, so i dont mind if i only lose a lb every 2 weeks.

i also try to do 10k a day on my exercise bike, and do this about 5 days a week. next week i will add in some light weights as well for toning.

do u think that im on the right track???

Hi darling09,

That sure sounds like you're on the right track!

You're eating looks pretty clean and once you incorporate your like resistance training I thnk you should definitely see some great results from what your doing.

The only thing I would add to your eating plan might be a few snacks that contain some good fats like almonds or walnuts - if you like them :D

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

LOL. Wishful thinking :D, but it is a good source of calcium. Nuts are fab. Shame you are fond of them. Full of protein to help stop you getting hungry, and almonds will lower the GI value of a meal.

Olive oil is good for healthy fats :)

Looks like you have sorted out it out well. Enjoy :)

lol!! well at least its the 30% less fat chedder any way hehe!! i put olive oil on salads and when i cook fish i wrap it in tin foil and put sea salt, black pepper, olive oil and a splash of lemon juice over it - yum yum!

i think im right in saying that salmon and mackeral are sources of good fats?? or am i wrong again?? lol!!

i think i could do with almonds, i was thinking about having afew toasted almonds on my porridge today, but i was concerned it would increase the amount of calories i was consuming too much? do u think its ok to consume more calories if they are from healthy sources or should i just stick to low? i suppose i could cut out the sugar in my tea and my snack a jacks to make up for it but as i dont drink alcohol and i dont eat chocolate anymore they are my substitutes!!!

Dead right! I love mackeral. Especially the cold smoked mackeral. Can be a big of a piggy with it though

Difficult one. Yes, nuts are higher calorie so will count, but it's getting a balance. There's load of research to support the idea that calories from almonds don't seem to be used in the same way as other calories. Evidently, people adding almonds to their normal calorie allowance, for some reason, didn't put on weight.

Caution is a must though, and I would always count them...just in case. But it does make me chose almonds over other nuts. Besides, they really do seem to curb hunger for me anyway.

Fair enough. If you don't add some things that you really want, it's hard to stick with. Better to add it to a healthy plan, and have a diet you can do :)

im having mackeral tonight :) havnt got much in tho so will just be with some frozen veg, but will go shopping on sunday for some fresh stuff!

in that case i might well start to have some almonds, i dont mind the taste too much coz i LOVE cherry bakewells and ammaretto and so they remind me of them! hehe! il still add them into my daily allowance. i dont usually quite hit my bmr so it wouldnt be too much of a problem.

i think having a treat that is naughty, but not half as naughty as to what i was used to having, has helped me stick with healthy eating alot better. i could eat one of those massive cadbury chocolate bars (the ones meant for sharing) in just two days before! i cant actually remember the last time i had a bar of proper chocolate, and i havnt had a craving for one either! im supposed to be going to cadburys world over easter (how fun!) but im not worried about it at all. il allow myself the free samples they give but i wont buy anything and it will be a fun day out with my family that i wont get to do again for a while. so being comfortbale with my diet and not feeling guilty for not living off rice cakes and cottage cheese is what makes it right for me :)
