Milk or not?

I have just had a chocolate tetra and the ingredients say 'skimmed milk'. maybe one of the experts could tell me whether this means I can have a tiny bit of milk in my coffee - I just can't stand it black!!!
Thanks

Hiya

I'm afraid not, but what I used to do as I also can't drink black coffee, was make a filter coffee and add it to my cappucino shake, or take a spoonful of vanilla shake and mix that into a black coffee. It's not quite the same but it does give you your "coffee" fix. :)

Hope that helps

you shouldn't as it can knock you out of ketosis and induce hunger pangs...however i do. i always have one cup of tea a day with a little splash of milk, just to get me through the day. Lucky for me im not very sensitive and i dont get knocked out of ketosis or feel hungry but you might.
im not gonna say one way or the other but the official line is no.

i wouldnt risk it to be honest. i know i can 'get away with it' but i wouldnt reccommend it :)

Thanks to both of you for the advice. I am finding the diet quite easy to stick to but the coffee is becoming my downfall. I will have to have a rethink about it - if I have one cup with a bit of milk then i will probably want more so it may not be a good idea for me. Oh well, keep trying the very weak coffee with a sweetener!!!!
I know that there may not be an answer to this one -or that it would be very, very technical! but does anyone know how can they get away with using skimmed milk for the tetras?

I'm missing my coffee to as I can't face it without milk. My cdc recomended this moring that I put a spoon full of coffee in with a vanilla shake. It was lovely, just like a milky coffee and much better than the cappucino shake.

Can I ask a question please? I followed this link out of interest. I've just switched to the 790 plan which is meant to keep you in ketosis?? But you're allowed 1/2 pint skimmed milk. So why would having some milk on SS take you out of ketosis? I'm sure there's a scientific explanation.

It doesn't bother me as I don't take milk. I'm just interested.

mmm. not sure. i would say that on SS youre not allowed it as it takes you over your reccommended amount of calories a day (after all it is supposed to be SS) whereas on 790 you can have the extra cals as long as they are limted enough to keep you in Ketosis. Hope thats not too confusing!

I have had two ladies recently who wanted to stop diet all because they couldnt drink their two cups of coffee without milk. I said they are better off trying a combination of the ss plan and nicking the milk off the 790 plan (keep to the recommeded amount)just for their coffees which they have both done and are having execellant results, you will still be in ketosis and if it keeps you on the diet then thats what i would do

I think the point here is that officially its a no no, however, we all find different coping mechanisms to follow the diet.

If you look at the CD book it does say some people don't stay in Ketosis on 790 due to the milk, especially if they are carb sensative, but most people do.

Try the above options, adding a bit of shake to coffee or adding a bit of coffee to shake and then re look at it if it doesnt work.

If it is the difference between a tiny bit of milk or jacking it in then Id try the milk tbh, but, the rules are there to follow to make the diet work in the best possible way, doenst mean they cant be bent slightly but just be careful, one splash of milk can lead to two, can lead to.......

Good Luck x

very true. I limit myself to a maximum of two mugs of tea with milk a day...but i know it could easily lead to more. xx

Same here. if i couldnt have my 'bit of normality' i think i would find it much much harder to cope.

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone for your comments. I think I may try a small amount of milk just to keep me going. Thanks again.
