Calorie count us?

I have no idea about calories (hence getting me where I am today!) As we have a thread saying what we are eating, I wondered if anyone would like to hazard a guess at the calorie content? pleeeeeeeease :)

At the mo the past 3 days i have probably consumed well over 7000 so far!! But as i am getting into ketosis i am sure it will go down to an average of 1000-2000 a day for me!!

So high cus i been eating alot of pork scratchlings...

What would be 2 large egg omelette, sprinkle of cheese, 2 mushrooms, six slices of roast beef, handful of spinach, 2 chicken breasts, and a large glass of red wine for instance?

Wouldn't know TT. I have never counted calories on Atkins.

What would be 2 large egg omelette 200 cals, sprinkle of cheese 50 cals, 2 mushrooms almost no cals, six slices of roast beef 300 cals, handful of spinach nothing, 2 chicken breasts 400 cals, and a large glass of red wine for instance?

Just a guess, roughly working out each item, I would say you are on about 900 - 1000 cals minus the wine. Not sure what the cals are in wine?

What does anyone else think? I might have got the beef cals wrong, it was all a guess.

The thing with calorie counting is normally to make sure you don't have too many cals in the form of starchy carbs or sugar, but as you aren't eating any, you wouldn't have to worry about cals on Atkins.

A woman need 2000 cals to maintain and anything below that will mean you will lose weight....at least that's what they used to tell you at clubs like slimming world. But am happy to be corrected if this is now wrong.

Spot on Sarah.

And I learnt all of that thanks to you lovely people here on the low carb / atkins boards. Oh and reading my pig to twig book as well. Just goes to show the power of forums.

yes it does love.

What you got to remember op is it is not the calories we count on low carb diets its sugar and carbs... we lose weight by cutting them out!!

Not always. It depends on a person's basal metabolic rate plus an additional 20, 30 or 40% extra (called the Harris Benedict formula) for sedentary, moderate or heavy activity.

My BMR to maintain is 2163 calories a day plus because I am sedentary I add another 20% which is about 430 so to maintain weight I would need 2,600 cals a day.

It takes 3,500 calories to gain or lose a pound of weight, so for every 500 calories under the 2600 I go a day I would lose one pound of weight, so if I ate 1,100 calories a day I would lose three pounds a week because I am going 3 x 500 cals under per day.

Umm, Pam, Atkins is not about calories, it's about Carbohydrates.

The two don't mix in my opinion.

I was just explaining though Jim that people think 2000 calories is the standard figure to maintain, as Sarah P above stated, but some people need more to stabilise and some need less. I know Atkins dont count calories though!!!

Ah OK Pam. Thanks. :)

I understand how Atkins works!!! I was just trying to tot up one day to know, not to do it everyday!

Sorry if I offended you TT. I was just trying to explain how calories counting works, not try to preach to the converted about Atkins.

Nobody has offended me!
