What happens in class?

Hi, I've been doing SW online and on my own which appeals to me as I have unpredictable events crop up quite a bit. The first 4 weeks were great, but I've since lost some of the initial enthusiasm and after several STS weeks I think I need a boost of motivation and have been thinking about attending a class.

There is a class near me but it clashes with an evening course I do. I am prepared to cancel my evening class, but would like to know a bit more about what I can expect from going to class. For example, I know there is the WI, but people on here also talk about awards and taster sessions - can some one please fill me in a bit so I know what to expect.

Also, if I go for a week or two but don't like it, is it OK to stop going? I don't want to annoy the consultant but I'm also reluctant to commit myself to an evening activity that I don't enjoy.

Thanks.

Hi,
This is what happens at my class...... It starts at 5.30 and you can arrive anytime between then and 6pm to weigh in. I get their early, have a coffee and a chat for half an hour with everyone (ive been going 2 years almost!). Some arrive on the dot at 6.

Then the consultant will do Image Therapy. She goes round each person and announces their losses or gains (never revealing weight) and discusses how their week has been and if they need any help.

We share advice and recipes and generally help each other if we are struggling.

We also have foodie nights periodically when we all take in something syn free or low syn and enjoy good food and a chat.

It is always well worth staying as this is where you pick up a load of info and if you have had a bad week it doesn't make you feel so bad if you are not on your own!!

Hope this helps
Jay xx

Forgot this bit...... the consultant is used to people starting and then not continuing, so I wouldn't worry. Just tell her it's not for you. You could also just get weighed and go, a lot of people do that but you don't get the group support. :)

Thanks Jaylou, that's really useful to know. I think if I were to go I'd happily stay for the duration of the class. Plus I like the idea of meeting new people. Sounds quite daunting to go through the class person by person - but maybe that's exactly the motivation I need!

Hi - As Jaylou says she goes round the group person by person. If they've lost she'll say how much they've lost and - if they had previously been stuck - find out what they'd done differently.

If they've put on, she won't say by how much but will chat about if they know why etc. This means that other people who may have been though the same thing can chip in with advice.

Likewise if you've anything coming up that week that may throw you out (a party etc) people can give you advice on that too.

Everyone takes a piece of fruit or something similar and the Slimmer of the Week takes that home.

If you really don't want to talk out loud, I'm sure they'll be fine if you explain that to her but it really is fine. I've never seen anthing except people having total sympathy if anyone has a gain and there is a lot of tips and recipes etc.
