Q's about the diet?

IrishMum

A little of everything!
I'm thinking about trying this but I've seen on other forums that different peoples doc's won't 'allow' them to do the full programme- I couldn't see anything about getting your doc's permission on their website- it seemed to indicate that it was at the pharmacists discretion? Also- how much roughly a week is it- is it £30? And do you get fed up of the limited flavours? Any other advice or things to consider would be appreciated?

for women its around £38 per week

the flavours all be it limited, you kinda get used to it and for me i was ok with what i liked.

as far as i know i believe some docs might be willing to refer people to it but i arent sure on that

Thanks for the quick reply- no, the impression I got was that you HAD to be referred by a GP? Is that wrong? Can the pharmacist allow you to do it at his discretion? The price sound ok- similar to CD but easier to get where I am!

hey i got mine through gp it depends if your surgery does it or not i get mine for 22.50 or in chemist where i live for 30 pounds i dont like any flavours apart from chocolate so that is all i have was on it for 5 months and didnt get fed up you just get used to it! hope this helps x

WOW! 5 months on only chocolate- thats a long time! How much did you lose if you don't mind me asking?

i started at 15 stone 12 and finished the diet at 10 stone due to health reasons i finshed in april at 10 stone because of christmas etc... im back on it on my first week i weigh just under 11 hoping to get to 8 stone and half

Jeez!! Thats amazing! Can I ask- did you have any 'days off' during that time? I have a wedding and a party in 6wks and I don't want to be having shakes at the reception! I'm not sure if I'd be better waiting until after them, but I don't want to 'waste time' by waiting until then to start? Your loss in inspiring!

i didnt have any time off its hard first couple of days then you start going in to ketosis and you start feeling alot better.
its up to you when you start i have a shaker thing that u can take out with you. you could start it and have a break at the wedding but it is hard starting up again even though i was on it all that time i found the second time around harder the first couple of days im on day 5 and feel better with more energy as ketosis should have kicked in by now.
i love the diet all diets i have been on i have failed the refeeding was brilliant and i didnt put to much on untill christmas where i went down hill to much temptations lol

Hiya hunni,

well done for takin a massive step an lookin into this diet! urhalf way there!!

I pay £36 a week, i just went into my chemist and said can i go on it, an they were made up!!

im their star pupil they say haha cos no one else as ever stuck ot it in that chemist!!

i have mostly chocolate, but some weeks will have a few vanilla an a few chicken, jus to mix it up a bit...

the diet is VERY extreme, and should really be done without any days off, as once u slip, its near impossible to get back on...

but.. IT WORKS! and its so very very worth it...

the first week is by no means easy, but after that youve cracked it, im in week 7, which is nothing compared to some people on here, but have lost 2.5 stone in that time, so see it as a very small price to pay for such amazing results...

best of luck with what you decide an were all here for support

xxxxx

The LT is £36.00 per week. You can have strawberry, choc, vanilla shakes, chicken soup, coconut flapjack or peanut flapjack. I only have choc and strawberry and so far so good. After about 6 weeks I found it starts to get a bit boring if anything but the results are worth it. I am planning to do this for about another 4 months. I just saw my chemist and didn't have to get referred from GP or anything. Good luck if you start, it's worth it.

I haven't had a break from this or broken the diet since starting so can't really advise on taking a break. People that have taken a break do find it harder to restart though.

Thanks for all the advice! Hmmm...I'm undecided whether to wait? If I lost 2 1/2stone in 6wks I'd nearly be at target! Maybe I should wait until after the wedding though- it's the Friday after Easter so not that long to wait? Then I'd have no distractions! LOL! I don't know?
I'm 12st 8lbs (on a 'good' day! LOL!) so have about 3 stone to lose? Though I'd be happy with anything! It's kind of a last resort for me- I've been eating healthy (NO processed foods, very few takeaways, at least 5-a-day, smaller portions etc.) since last January, and been under the care of a dietician for over 6mths who advised me to eat 1500 cals a day- I've lost absolutely NOTHING during that time, and weigh/counted religiously. I'm hoping this might 'shock' my system into letting go of the weight?

All I can say is that lipoing a fab!! Hard work at first but as soon as you jump on those scales your addicted!!

Hey! Just something about starting and GPs - I started no problem cos Im relatively healthy, just had to do a little health check with the chemist and say if I had anythin wrong with me! My mum also wanted to start the diet though and her GP has told her not to as she has diabetes and I think it would do something to her medication - or she'd have to come off it for the diet or something like that! The chemist should know what to do if you tell them about any medical problems! Hope that was more of a help than a ramble... :) x

I have an underactive thyroid but my levels have been stable for over a year with meds. I wonder would that 'disqualify' me? My local pharmacy does app's every tues/thurs morning so I might see if he can see me to see if I can do it before I decide? Thanks for your help everyone- this is one of the 'friendlier' forums!

Hiya Irishmum, I agree with the price of £36 for women and I agree that re-starting is harder second time round. The flavours are limited, but you do get used to them, or you may probably stick to the ones you prefer, and believe it or not when the time comes when you start re-feed, you will miss the shakes, they take out all the hassle of deciding what to eat,and are much cheaper than grocery shopping. Healthy food costs a fortune  Best of luck x

Hi there irish mum

It is £45 for women in Armagh i go to the moy to get mine. Quite expensive. If you can stick to it, it is worth it however im just finsihing week two and feel i can no longer go on. Im already starting to nibble at food.:mad:

However i have lost nearly a stone in weight.

hiya and welcome to the forum I went to the chemist went thru the questionaire had a chat as to what I wanted to lose and what I needed to lose and started, however my sister in law who decided to join was asked to go the Drs after telling chemist she was on tablets for blood pressure Dr gave the go ahead as she explained that losing the weight would benefit her blood pressure.

My other sister in law inspired by ou weightlossess decided to join us and again was reffered to the Dr due to type 2 diabetese and ME Dr approved of LT saying the weightloss would benefit her diabetes, however she has had to stop due to the fact sh is unable to stabilise her sugars, so what im saying is depening on any medical issues you may not be reffered to Dr

all the best
