First of all, hi! Been on cambridge 6 days now and been reading these forums all week, really helpful :)

Ok, i got a question. 6 days in and lost nearly a stone so really happy about that and i think i can keep it up. So my birthdays on sunday and im going out for a meal with my boyfriend. Cake will be involved. Lots of cake. So basically i wanna know how badly this will affect my weight loss for the week and if ill get the hunger pangs (*shudder*) of day 2 & 3, thanks! :)

Hi,

I assume you are planning on eating since you're saying lots of cake is involved?

If you don't eat it won't affect your loss. If you do eat things like cake and sweets you will be kicked out of ketosis (you will also gain a bit on the scales; water retention due to eating carbs again!) and you will be feeling hungry again like the first days getting into CD SS.

The questions is, do you want the cake that bad? ;-) You could have a low carb meal as your meal out instead of cake. It will affect your weight loss a lot less and you aren't likely to get kicked out of ketosis.

Good luck !

Thanks for advice!

I guess i could have salmon or chicken for dinner. May yet cave on the day but will make sure im back on SS the next day and keep drinking my water!

Is it not possible to not go out for a meal? Could you do something more in line with CD? An activity you could both do rather than food..

My birthday is the 1st Feb.. I started days before it.. because I wanted to lose weight more than I wanted a birthday meal. It seems a shame for you to go back a week - a week of GREAT losses, and feel rubbish for eating, and risk your willpower - as it will be harder not to eat again after it.

It's for you to decide, but these are some of my reasons. :)

I agree with Lostris and Purple Hugs. I remember people taking days off for Christmas and come end of January some were still struggling to get back into the diet. But like it's been said, it is your decision to make.

I think the other thing that has to be considered is what other 'days' there are.. since I started back and in the near future my list is plentyful... lots of opportunities to 'treat myself'
My birthday
Valentines
3 days away
Shrove Tuesdeay
Hubbies Birthday
Mothers Day
Daughters Birthday
3 days away
Easter
3 days away

And that's just up till the end of April!! Can you imagine the turmoil I'd be in if I cheated everytime I got to one of these events? And normally they'd all be shrowded in food.. this is something I have come to terms with the fact I will have to change when I'm at goal. And the attitudes of those around me as even my daughter who is coming up 10 is like 'oooh mum...' about me not eating something.

We make the decisions to change our lives.. and need to remembery why ((hugs)) Just my opinion of course! lol

That is such a good point. That has really struck a chord with me. I will remember this when I am think about my 'oh so important special occaisions'

Thanks :) It is only after 'treating myself' for many years on diets that I can see the damage it does ME and my desires.

Excellent point :happy096:

Special occasions where we "have" to eat happen for all CD'ers, not just an unlucky few whose timing means they have events coming up.

The difference between success and failure on CD is deciding on what we want more - food, or success on the diet? Unfortunately it's rare that you can combine both without negatively affecting your willpower/resolve - if we could then I doubt we'd be on a VLCD in the first place. :sigh:

Hmmm I reckon you have two choices, either not have the meal and cake... or start the diet after your birthday. This isnt the sort of diet where you can take days off here and there for any occasion. I started a week before valentines day and made my bf cancel the restaurant, and we went to the cinema instead. We will be having a nice celebration meal once ive finished the diet instead!
