Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie. I'm hoping minimins will keep me going on for sometime. As long as I can remember, I've always been overweight.
It's only in the last couple of months or so, warning lights have been flashing off in my head. My knees have started hurting, my back kills all the time, and I find myself out of breath at the least bit of movement.

I'm going away to stay with a friend abroad in the summer, and really want to be active by then, and to wear nice clothes.

I haven't been to the doctors for a long time, because I hate seeing "Obese" as my health status on my profile. I hate being weighed.
One would have thought I would have made more of an effort earlier, but no matter, I'm starting now, and hopefully will keep it up. My Short term goal is to lose 3 stones, my final goal is to lose 9

I planned to keep this thread upbeat, but eh. Still, I will be laughing in a couple of months :D

Wish me luck!

Hi Summer,

I know how you feel about your body starting to hurt. Mine has too. My ankles, knees and most recently, my right hip has started to bother me... so much so that when getting up from sitting for a while, I have to limp a little until everything loosens up.

I understand about the doctor too. My doctor is pretty understanding and doesn't really harass me about my weigh.. but when I was pregnant with my daughter, my OB/GYN was a different story. There was nothing more shocking than seeing "Morbidly Obese" on my file under pregnancy complications. I had gained alot of weight due to medications before I had gotten pregnant, and then my daughter came along and added a lot more weight! She was a big baby too (9lbs 3oz), so I almost hit 300 lbs by the time she was due... with her big 'ol self in me and the massive amount of water I was retaining!

The forums REALLY help so keep at it and when you need to take your mind off things, get on here and find people to talk to. Works for me :)

Minimins is fantastic for support and encouragement. It's so much better than doing a diet on your own. Best thing to do is get involved, contribute to threads, start a diary and you find you make friends who keep you going when you feel like there's no hope.
Well that's my experience anyway. I've been a member of the site for six months and I couldn't have lost the weight that I have without my wonderful friends!
Good luck with your journey... keep us posted.
