Hi all, i hope you've all had a good day and you're doing well on the diet.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem my mum is having on the diet?

She has been on CD SS 100% for over a month now and for the past few weeks she has been getting headches almost everyday.

She is usually ok in the morning but when it gets to late afternoon and the evening she says her head starts to feel really heavy and its difficult for her to sleep. She sometimes gets it after she has her shake.

I'm not sure what it could be but i have suggested drinking more water and cutting down on the housework (she does alot). I've also suggested that maybe she move upto SS+ or 810 cals but shes reluctant to do so because she doesnt think she'll lose much weight. She thinks this because she has been doing SS 100% and is only losing 2lbs or so a week. So she thinks that if she moves up a step she'll lose less and she doesnt want to spend £35 a week on it for low losses.

She also doesnt want to drink more water because she is drinking around 3.5 litres a day and feels like any more would be dangerous for her and difficult to drink.

I would really appeciate your thoughts and opinions on this as i'm really worried about her and dont know what else to suggest.

I will also mention that she is about 5 ft 1 and she is currently around 11 stones 7lbs. She also suffers fron low iron levels but she says that she doesnt feel thats the cause because shes not getting the symptoms she usually gets when she is low on iron.

Shes going to make an appointment this week to get her blood pressure checked to make sure thats not the cause but other than that i dont know what to do and i feel responsible because shes only knows about the diet through me.

I'm really really sorry about the long post but i just wanted to be clear about everything.

I would really appreciate your help.

Thank you xx :)

I'm really sorry haven't got any advice, my first thoughts were fluid intake and blood pressure. I have had a couple of light headed moments but they seem to have passed (I have low blood pressure so no real idea of the symptoms of high bp).

Hope she gets to the bottom of it, or one of the CDC's here can help.

I'm really sorry mum your mum is feeling unwell and can fully understand your concern :hug99:

I'm not going to be of much help really, but it seems your mum is having plenty of fluid so it shouldnt be due to dehydration.

I think she's doing the best thing by going to her GP to have a check up.

I hope she feels better soon, keep us posted to how she's getting on.

Hi

i've been doing ss+ for nearly 5 weeks and my headaches are still coming and going the same as the first week. normally from afternoon onwards. not every day but at least 3 to 4 a week.

this has been mentioned on other threads, so maybe it just affects us lucky ones differently.

i also drink 3 litres a day and upping my water does not seem to make a difference.

one thing i do remember from another thread is that the high concentration of vits and mins in the packs can cause this issue and it was suggested to split the packs in half to see if it helped the problem, has your mum tried doing that????

hope she feels better real soon, and 2lb a week is still amazing..

Just thought of something else. You havent mentioned her age so I'm purely guessing but if she is around the age of her menopause this can have an effect on the diet. I have a lot of ladies in their late 40's to 50's and they also average around a 2lb loss each week.

Purple Hugs, Minilady, Biltsy, thank you all so much for your support and kind words, i really do appreciate it.

Biltsy, my mum has said that her head feels worse when she has had her shakes so it could be the cause. She makes them up with 14oz of water but i'll suggest splitting the packs. Does anyone know how to measure half a pack and how much water to use??

Minilady, my mum has reached her menopause, so i'll let her know that it could be affecting her weighloss. Have your clients lost more on the higher stages of CD or does it apply to any weigthloss.

Biltsy, i do tell my mum that 2lbs is a fab loss but i think she is missing her food alot and her cups of tea, lol. When i first did CD (i am on my restart) she said she could never do the diet but her GP suggested she lose some weight because she was at risk of getting unwell, so she decided to do it.

Thanks again for all your replies :) xx

Oh my gosh, minilady i just noticed your avatar, you look amazing. You must be such an inspiration to your clients. Congrats on being at goal for 20 months.

Do you mind me asking what kind of food you ate/eat after doing CD?? I am worried about this because i really want to keep my weight off this time and i'm not sure if i should go onto Low GI or try something like Slimming World or WW to maintain my weight. I mostly eat an asiany/indiany based diet (i'm pakistani) and so its hard to know the cals and carb content of some dishes.

Thanks xx

hi maybe baby

splitting the packs is pure guess work, but i normally don't have a problem getting it right, i still do 8 oz's if its split and more if a whole pack..

there is a thread Sole Source and Sole Source + (Addition of Skimmed Milk) that might be interesting to read too re missing her cuppa..

xxxx biltsy

Thanks Biltsy, i'll give it a read. She does miss her tea lots, lol.

xx

Lol Biltsy, i just read your sugery date thing, it made me lol. I'd put get my lips done, forgot what thats called xx

This is only from what I have noticed with my clients but they seem to lose the same sort of amounts on ss and 810 plan. Most of my ladies find the 810 plan easier to cope with and their losses are the same as if they were ssing. I havent got a clue why:confused:
Maybe someone more informed will read this thread and throw some light on it.

Follow the stabilisation plans that's the best advise I can give you. They're so important, and brilliantly planned out so that you'll be following a low gi diet which will leave you feeling satisfied and full of energy.

I love indian food with a passion and have curry a couple of times a week myself. I make my own curries usually I have either a veggie, prawn or chicken curry with brown rice or wraps cut into strips.

There are lots of low fat low gi recipes for indian food. I also try my own concoctions:eek: I use lots of tomatoes and low fat natural yogurt for the main ingredients for the sauces.

Thank you for your reply minilady. I will mention the weightloss/menopause issue to my mum and see what she thinks.

I will DEFINATLEY be doing the stabilistaion plans. I didnt do them the last time i did CD because i was SSing when we went into the month of ramadan and so it was very hard to do CD SS when we cant eat or drink for about 12 hours and resist all the tempting food. But i will definatley do it this time.

Sometimes i think it should be easy to maintain if i eat healthy but i'm alittle scared because i gained my weight back.

Home made curries are really very healthy, its just the oil (and someitmes the meat) that makes it unhealthy. We only really use oil, onions, spices, meat, tomatoes, green chillies and water. But we do have to use butter when we make lentils. I would just like to know the calories of everything sometimes. The chappaties are usually made from white flour but we intend to change to wholemeal when we finish CD.

I'll have to have a look for the low GI recipies and see what takes my fancy. I'll try to make up some healthier versions of all that tempting fried food we have too.

Thanks again for your reply :) xx
