Dieting mentality.

Did it take you long to get this thinking out of your head after joining SW.
Ihave done so many diets in the past, Weight Watchers, Atkins, Low gi etc but I am struggling to get past the restrictive thinking.
For example, the Pasta n sauce ot flavoured rice that are unlimited on a greed day, i wuldnt have touched these before and im still wary of eating them now.
Even on a red day Im scared of eating too much of the likes of bacon or steak or whatever it happens to be.

I suppose itll just take time but i definitely think im not eating enough because of this thinking.
Did anyone else feel like this at the start?

Its perfectly normal to feel like this Hun! I used to think..how can I eat all of these things and still loose the weight? Then as the weight started to shift I stopped questioning it!
You have to get around the its a free food way of thinking. Its not going to do you any harm at all to have one or two of these if they are free synned.
Just relax safe in the knowledge that you can eat these things and not gain weight!

I hadn't dieted before other than a few days of 'supposed' healthy eating and I realised that a class was going to be the way to go for me. Didn't want to do WW cos my friend had... what if I failed?:ashamed0005: So SW was the leaflet that dropped thru my door.
I really couldn't believe my luck re the plans, free food - who'd have thunk it!! 2nd weigh in got my ½ stone award having done mostly green.
I do know vaguely about counting calories, but I couldn't tell you how many I consume - how many in a cup of rice or how many in a great big steak - I do think that puts me in a lucky position compared to someone who has tried a few diets, they must hang about in your mind and be subconciously sticking their oar in
Anyway - I'm 2½ stone down now 6 months later - it does work, you just need to let it :)
Good Luck

Thats fantastic well done on your loss. I just think if i got over the first couple of weeks and saw some losses then I would get into it more.
I have read in a lot of posts that if you dont eat enough that you wont lose and im afraid of that happening and then putting me off to the point of giving up.

Fill up on free and superfree - that's exactly what they are. If you feel like snacking - the kind of snacking where you need to shovel something in - big handfuls (like I do LOL) do it with beanshoots or celery - your diet brain will 'get' that there's not many calories there :)
Do hang in there, keep coming here for inspiration!!

I felt like that, but lost weight so much more consistently with SW it soon wore off!

Nope, I was told it was free and I'd seen the plan had worked for my friend so I shovelled it in! I love pasta and potatoes so green days were my idea of heaven and I love it.

If this plan can sort my seriously messed up brain out, and completely reform my attitude to eating in the space of a couple of months, I'm pretty confident it can do the same for anyone!

It's difficult at first, but you must tell your calorie/points counting brain to sod off when it gets in the way. Ignore the subconscious drone of 'but that must be 500 calories right there! I can't eat that!!', trust that there is something to this plan that doesn't quite seem to make logical sense to a brain that's used to counting all the time, and you will see the results.

I just tell myself it's some sort of voodoo. :D

I think one of the problems is that when we have had a weight problem and either overeaten throughout our lives or just lived on a diet of crap and excess we just seem to have it ingrained in us that the only way we can lose weight is by counting calories or living on rabbit food, so when we start something like SW, even though we've been used to consuming far too many calories, we go the other way and start consuming too few, not quite believing that we can actually eat a packet of bacon if you want to!

When I did my consultant training, I questioned free food, I genuinely expected them to tell us that it wasn't really 'free' and that there was some catch there that we just weren't telling members, but honestly, if it says it's free then that means it is free, unlimited!, if you don't lose weight, it is not because you have eaten too much free food as you can't, it will be because you have eaten something you thought was free and is actually synned, you have eaten too many syns or you have not measured your HE's correctly, you cannot fail to lose weight by eating tons of free food, believe it!

Let's be honest, slim people who don't have a weight problem, don't count calories do they? (or if they do then that's really sad!) and that's the whole point of SW, it's supposed to be teaching us a way of eating we can adopt for life, not just for the short term, and no body wants to be counting calories day to day or feeling restricted on what and how much they can eat

Exactly, couldn't agree more. Getting away from the restrictive mentality is what will get you to a normal weight and keep you there. As some wise person said, diets don't work. The statistics on regaining weight in people who have successfully reached goal are very depressing. If you don't change your attitude/habits for life, no 'diet' will keep you at goal once you've reached it. That's why I love Food Optimising so much, because it's basically training your brain to think differently and eat healthily for life.
