Hi everyone!

My mum and brother are coming to stay this weekend and they want to go to nandos ...
what would happen if i have a chicken fillet, medium sauce with chips??
i'm on my first week of CD.

If its a BAD idea ... how about some suggestions what i can eat, if anything?

Sorry, but you cannot even think of cheating in this room since it's the 100% forum ;)

I'll move your message and reply then :)

Hiya Kirsty. Now I've moved your message, we can discuss this :D

Nondos chicken and chips = very bad idea.

Suggest mother and brother stay at home and engage in meaningful conversation, or you go there but don't eat anything.

Or...you scrape sauce off chicken and have with a small salad (no dressing), then pray hard

I guess you are on 810?

You will be out of ketosis lol that means it will take up to 4 days for you to start loosing weight again,

I wouldn't risk it. Stick to chicken with no skin or batter and salad and you'd be okay. Chicken in batter and sauces and chips will all kick you out of ketosis big time!

If you really have to eat Nando's do a plain green salad.. you could have this with a plain grilled chicken breast.... xx

Nandos do me a lovely plain chicken salad - you just have to ask nicely.

Kirsty,
Sometimes it is not so much what food you eat but what eating the food will do to your mind.
Just fyi, :fyi:
*you may find it hard to get back on plan
*since you just started you may not have built up enough strength, willpower to get back on plan
*you may find it easy to eat other things after the nandos meal
*you may be able to get back on plan with no problem

It all depends, I know, as clear as mud lol

I think back to around the time I was starting and I wanted to start but I had a lunch meeting with in the next 2 days that I wanted to attend and be able to eat. She said why not start after that engagement. She said if I was going to do it I might as well do it right. That was very powerful for me so I waited a few days to start. After that I chose to go out with friends and co-workers to lunches and dinners and I would either order hot water and make up a soup, ask the restaurant to make up my soup, drink a tetra ( I ALWAYS carry my little igloo cooler with 2 icepacks and all the tetras I would need for 1 day no matter how long I think I will be away from home. Nice and chilled) or drink tea or coffee. At first yes it was hard but I forced myself to do it and the more I did it the easier it got. People would try to make me eat or they would say they couldn't eat if I didn't eat. I would tell them that was their, to eat or not that it wouldn't bother me either way. My friends and co-workers are curious about the diet and ask lots of questions as I lose more and more.
You have to decide how you want your journey to be, pretty easy or always fighting with yourself about eating or not eating. If you stick it out for several weeks, it becomes very easy, I have seen people on here say that time and time again. It is your journey, ultimately you must decide how to conduct it. Good luck no matter what you chose.

Are you supposed to be on SS?

If yes, i would say if you are on week one, psycologically it might be more damaging than anything else... once you start nibbling it is hard to get your foodie mind to switch off...

you're likely to have a good loss anyway in week 1, but if you go for a meal you don't know how much better you're loss could have been....

i would honestly explain to your family the position you're in and ask them to respect that, skip the meal out unless you absolutely can't, and if you can't then have a plain salad and chicken no sauce....

That said, i have a low carb meal every thursday after weigh in and it hasn't knocked me out of ketosis yet... but everyone is different, some people are more sensitive than others....

best avoided if at all possible would be my advice so early on, unless it's just after weigh in.... (which isn't recommended but it's how i live!)

I personally wouldnt give in so early on. I started SS right before Valentines day... we didnt go for an evening meal, but instead went to a lunch time pub where he could eat, and I ordered a pint of water to mix my shake in.

I find if you give in once, you wipe out the whole day as you think "Ive eaten now, i might as well eat all the things I want to eat and start again tomorrow" so then youve just undone all your hard work, and probably put on all the weight youve just lost too. Its not worth it really...

The decision is yours,

a)you can eat chicken and chips and it will more then likely kick you out of Ketosis, and you can start again the next morning but you may have to go through the hunger stage again
b) you can eat plain chicken and green salad with no dressing, should keep you in ketosis
c) you can go along with your family but only drink water but enjoy their company
d)you can speak to your family and ask them if rather then going out you could stay in and they can have something to eat and you can have your shake.

Only you can decide, some people find that once they start eating it is hard to get back into CD, others have planned 'timeouts' where they eat but get straight back on it, this is your weightloss journey and yes you can eat, but do you really want to?

What ever you decide we will still all be here supporting you! and we are all human and sometimes you just have to do what is best for YOU.

This is just my tuppence but I would say it would be a bad idea to lapse at this stage! You could maybe go to nandos and have a black coffee (as I did yesterday) or take a pack, or have water. I would say once you've committed to starting this diet, give it absolutely 100% with no tolerance to lapsing. Otherwise what is the point of paying all that money each week for doing it? Nandos will always be there and you will have to face other such challenges along the way, and find ways round them. What are you going to do, lapse every time something challenging comes up? By setting an example to yourself now you will know you can get round it, but by lapsing now you may set yourself on the course to lapse throughout..
Sorry if it sounds harsh, but it's just what I think.

There's some fantastic advice on here. I think people need to ask themselves how badly they want this? I'm only in my first week, but I can't think of any reason why I would break the diet, as I want it to work! I don't think I could face my CDC either.

It makes me wonder if CDCs are explaining about ketosis properly (I know a fair bit about it because I did the original Atkins years ago, and the book was very informative about it). CD isn't just an ordinary diet, we are setting in motion a series of chemical processes here, that need to be maintained at a precise level. If this is broken, then the CD just isn't going to work properly - it can't, because it's not being allowed to. Does that make sense?

Makes perfect sense,

,I think when you first start its easy to get in the mind set that I have been good for 6 days so one meal won't hurt ie on WW or SW alot of people have a treat night after weigh in, Soul Source just doesn't work like this that one meal will set you back a good few days whilst you get back into ketosis.

Hi guys ... thanks for all your advice ... it really does help.

Since i started the diet i have be VERY busy with college work (up till midnight etc) so therefore my mind didn't have time to wonder and worry about my tummy!! But yesterday i didn't have any work to do and was sitting around thinking about what would be nice in my stomach. I have known for a long time that my family were visiting and i was(and am) totally happy to go to nandos and watch them eat.

I have decided that i will just have a water and stay strong because at the end of the day it is a) quite an expensive diet to ruin b) weak if i give in and c) i only have 6 weeks of doing the CD so 6 weeks out of many years to come is nothing!!

I went to asda today to get the food in for my family (as the cupboards are EMPTY) and i wasn't tempted to buy any snacks or sneak anything. KFC and McDonalds AND Subway are beside asda and i could smell them when i came out but i wasn't tempted.

So all in all ... i had a moment of weakness yesterday and thankfully i'm through it. I AM in the right place to do this diet and i am 100% commited, i just have to stay strong and keep my self busy!

Thanks again peeps!
x

p.s. my scales say i have lost 6lbs since monday so that makes me stronger and VERY happy ... yipee!!

I think Kirsty has decided not to carry on with the diet. She posted in her team 24 thread this morning she was stopping.

I hope she does ok if she decides to diet on something else.

This is part of the reason why i have stayed 100% ss as i think if i had 1 nibble on anything i would not be able to stop and would make it so hard for me to get back onto ss.
