Hey everyone...
Just looking at Tunisia... so thought I'd get some advice.
Wanting to go to Port El Kantaoui for 2 weeks.
Have looked at Hotel Riu Imperial Marhaba which looks gorgeous and so far on trip advisor I have found tons of positive reviews on it.

Also any recommendations of must things to see/do in Tunisia xx

Thanx

My mum and younger brother went there a couple of years ago - not sure where abouts but she would put anyone off going! she says the food was horrible and my younger brother was ill most of the week from it!

But i am sure there are some good stories out there ...........

I was going to go for my honeymoon but was put off by stories from people who have been (then again I am blonde and fair and apparently that does draw a lot of attention) :(

blonde and fair.. yup that would attract alot of attention... lol..

aah.. so thats two negative responses so far :(
it just looks so so pretty and so much culture.

I've been I went to Skanes. I really liked it our hotel was really nice ..the food was basic but it was edible and we got to go on to trips to places. Its extremely hot in the summer..I think if you find enough places to go its lovely. The beaches are nice and clean. There are no traffic lights in Tunisia so be warned. I wouldnt advise a hire car tbh they do drive like maniacs. But other than that I thought it was ok. I lost a stone whilst i was there due to food and water :) xxx

We went to Port el Kantoui. Its a purpose built resort, not a lot to do there really. We had a fantastic hotel, but didn't really like Tunisia. We went to other towns which were nice, but didn't venture far at night because we were advised it was not safe to do so. We spent some time on the beach, which was very nice, but extremely windy from about 1pm, so back to the hotel pool. There are some lovely restaurants and the port area is nice, with plenty of shops, but for a two week stay, we were a bit limited as to where to go and what to do after the first few days.

Hope this helps x

There was this tour i honestly cant remember what it was called! But we went on camels to this place where we ate stone oven baked bread and then we went in the horse and carts and looked at some other things. Then one day we also went to this other place where there was African tribesmen dancing it was really good. You got dinner and everything. We were also supposed to go and stay in the desert for 2 nights but we couldnt as there were bad sand storms and it was too dangerous...just a few things. Oh and the best thing was that we got a ship (like pirates of the Caribbean) with dancing on it ..and when we were in the middle of the sea we got to jump off of the boat and go for a swim with the fish :) tres cool. xxxx

ooh just remembered we went on a glass bottomed boat and the guy actually had to go and drag fish up from the bottom for us to see. He caught a squid too which was funny but totally ugly looking. We saw how carpets are hand weaved and we also went to Monastir in a mini van. Most hotels have something called a Noddy Train which is pretty much a small childs train that takes you around places. If you like white knuckle rides. Try one. I did - on a dual carriageway at 30 mph. Hilarious..when i arrived back safely.

Ive heard its very very rough!! quite dangerous...

A friend of mine as in a car crash there and nearly died and the driver drove off and they never found him, so I wouldnt go personnaly

Yeah but i mean anywhere in Africa's dangerous. Do you knwo how dangerous Kenya is ?? You have to have security with you all the time if you go on Safari cos people come and kidnap you. Tunisia's probably quite safe plus like you could always go to Egypt or something it might be similar if everyones putting you off the idea? ...but again thats dangerous too..but where isnt these days.

its as dangerous as anywhere

look at america with all sorts that go off but people still flock there

anyway i have never fanced tunisia maybe its cos of the name lol i dont know

i have never been but heard from numerous people that have been there that it was not the nicest place and they wouldnt return.. however do not go to morocco. my teacher went there (shes brunette and not exactly slim - in a nice way) and they tried to buy her for camels.

have you tried looking into Malta .. i've heard thats really nice.. and quite unusual :D x

lol we had a similar experience - this guy was like oh i'll buy your mother for 2000 camels. I said excuse me - how am i going to get 2000 camels back to England lol. I wouldnt of sold her anyway but still thats not the point. xx

oh my god.. some of your stories have had me cracking up! lol and also have put me off....
im kinda stuck really coz I dont know... It was even on my short list for places to go on my honeymoon.... :s woman at travel agents said its great... and the hotel's great for couples etc... but then again they gonna try and sell it to me either way! but Ive looked online and havent had any reviews like yours!!! but im going with yours coz your a real bunch of people! thanx for the info tho...

the glass bottom boat sounds great, i read about that somewhere and a lot of people loved the pirates ship.

Im kinda stumped now. Where's a nice place to go on honeymoon??
Thing is we're wanting to go to a muslim country or at least a country that has halal food readily available.. coz there isnt a heck of a lot we could eat in most places... and my OH does not eat fish... i'd survive on seafood anywhere coz I absolutely love seafood but OH cant stand it...

I thought morocco... but every review I have read mentions snake charmers.. and I have a huge phobia of them so Im not going! I would not leave the hotel...

Any recommendations would be welcome!! xx thanx

india? (that's on my list of places to visit :D) or what about the Maldives. i don't know if Malta does Halal? what about Turkey? x

well we were originally gonna go to maldives... added bonus being that they have a huge muslim population so we assumed that halal food would be available... BUT... when I contacted the resorts they all said that because ALL food is imported from other countries none of it is halal.. so we'd have to eat veg or seafood... but that was my dream holiday destination!

We are not going to Turkey until next summer because we have turkish friends in London who want us to go with them as a group of 4! And we're both dead excited for that so we'll wait.

Im gonna check out malta..

thank you for your advice xxx

Im going to turkey this year - kaya koy of all places lol. Spooky - its just across from Olu Deniz. You'll love turkey - its quite cheap depending where you go. Lots of salad !! xxx

Well yes but if you're going with OH then thats good. They wont latch on to you. My mum was surprised I was going there so i suppose its good im going with a male friend too lol. She went out with a couple of turkish men before I didnt think much of them. Although the food is beautiful and the real natives are lovely people. I have a turkish aunt shes nice. xxx

oh guys! I have just sat and read almost a 100 reviews on the place I wanna stay on tripadvisor and out of all them there must have been about 10 ok reviews and the rest were 5 star!! Im gonna talk to the OH, he's all for it :)
