Hi xx.

Im sure you've all read a million of these before, so Ill try and keep mine short as possible... HELP!!!

I've tried literally every diet under the sun. Im 21 years old but feel about 100 at the moment. I weigh 21 stone 9lbs and have lost so much through my weight problems. Just last year i had to give up the job of my dreams as my weight has affected me so badly that i cant even walk more than 100 yards without the most excrutiating back pain. Since then, Iv just been pretty much housebound and of course the weight has continued to pile on.

My diet habits are so all over the place. I start a diet such as weight watchers, go out and buy all the food etc, stick to it for a week then ended up bingeing for a few days telling myself I'll start again tomorrow. Then i starve myself for a few days to make myself feel better then binge again until i go onto next diet.

Iv tried the cambridge diet, weight watchers, slim fast, basic calorie counting and just about any other. (The only one iv not tried is the atkins as i simply cant belive that works)

So why am I here? I need help. I need someone to advise me, maybe someone who was like me and has found a diet that they can actually stick to?

I haven't decided yet which diet i want to follow next but i know i need to do something. I rarely leave the house, I cant go shopping, on holiday, clubbing or just about anything else that normal 21 year olds should be doing.

Sorry, i droned on a bit there i know!!

xx

Hi Jopwo 87,
I hve recently joined this website and have had some really great support so far, so welcome!!!
I too have a lot of weight to lose, approx 10 stone, and have been overweight for most of my life, although I am now at my heaviest.
I completely agree with most of what you written, I suffer quite badly from a lack of confidence and this has also affected certain area's of my life, I wish that I had the magic solution to both of our problems but I don't and all I can offer you is my support in your journey.
You are not alone, everyone on here has or has had a weight problem so we all know how you feel, so whatever plan you follow there will be someone on here who is doing the same thing so you can ask for plenty of advice.

Sorry I cant be more helpful.

Traceym
xx

Jopwo... Where to start... I believe I have been where you have been about a year ago (when I was 21 too!).. Diets are so very difficult to stick to, but perseverance is the key. Sticking to something, and doing it.
I went and did the Lighter Life programme, and lost 8 stone on it over the period of 9 months, I can't say it was easy. But I kept going. Unlike Cambridge - it has weekly group sessions and counselling therapy.. It helps you understand your relationship with food, and how you got to where you are now. I know I certainly discovered a lot of things on my journey. The group sessions are definitely what kept me going a lot of the time. The results were pretty quick, and food abstinence helped. It was a big test, but by knowing your boundary you do learn to discipline yourself.

Visit the Lighter Life forum perhaps if you have any more questions, or scope around the forum a little to see what suits you best. :)

hey jopwo i feel your pain, i was pretty much in your situation when i was 21 too and felt life was passing me by, everyday was started with a new try that dissolved into a binge by evening and a start again tomorrow thought.. the thing is you can change and you can lose the weight!!! I did it with weightwatchers but was lucky in that it was my first time to join.. i also took my time at it.. i'm still not at my final goal! but things look so much better from where i am now. I found that going to the meetings everyweek and finding a leader u trust with a good group really helped me and of course going even when you had been bad..
you really can do this whatever way to decide to go for it, best of luck with your journey to success..

I was at the end of my rope when I joined Slimming World. I'd tried pretty much everything else but most included all the foods I didn't like and totally banned the foods I love. When my friend joined SW she told me about the plan and I just had to try it for myself. It is a lifestyle not a diet and it's a way of eating I can live with forever

Jop, I did Atkins, and it worked for me, look at the pics and stats.

Hey Jop, I think most people try lots and lots of diets before they find the one that is best for them.

It's so hard to kick start yourself into doing something and the first week is always the hardest. But whichever diet you do choose give it a couple of weeks and before you know it you will be seeing small differences and it will start becoming a normal way of life.

Let us know which diet you choose.

Good luck.

Thats sounds familar I have tried loads of diets and i am doing diet chef and its working for me. Everything is prepared for you all you have to do is open and eat or open, heat and eat, you can add vegetable to evening meal and have fruit during the day. I've lost 11.5lbs so far.

You need to find the one thats right for you, we can only tell you our diets and how they work for us, but everyone is different Good luck to you on this journey, hope you find something just right for you. :D
