Oh for crying out loud, why MY throat again?

Hi people

Just wanted to know if anyone has ever had a swollen uvula, you know this thing at the back of the throat. Woke up this morning with a very dry throat and when I took a sip of water to hydrate it, it hurt!

I looked in the mirror and my uvula is all swollen. I checked online, they say that it is mainly caused by alcohol consumption (can't drink), smoking (don't smoke, no one smokes around me) or LACK OF WATER! I couldn't believe it  With all the pints I drink every day. Anyway, I just hope it is not an infection, because I was off sick for a week 2 weeks ago because of a bad case of strep throat and it wasn't nice.

In the meantime, I gargle salted water and aspirin. But my uvula is tickling my throat and it makes me wanna gag all the time: I can't believe I have that :8855:

Anyway, have you ever had this? Does it mean I have to drink even more ? Because I am sure that we are way better hydrated than the average Briton! :D

Can't say I've had it... but hope u feel better soon.

Thanks Linda :)

I really had a horrible time 2 weeks ago. My throat was burning so much I had blood in my saliva

So now I am over reacting but it is good to moan :D

To be honest, I am afraid this is going to be an infection and that I'll have to take medicine that will prevent me from losing weight

I know its a nuisance... but u have to put ur health first, good luck.

Hi hon,

Like said above, please put your health first. Meds may slow your weightloss but you won't feel well if you remain sick and this will make dieting harder too!!

Please take care of your health hon!! Get well soon!!

xx

Thanks Linda and Lostris :)

I will give it 12 hours and if it's still swollen after that I will go and see the nurse (imposible to see a GP at the last minute at my surgery). At least, I don't have fever or anything. If it wasn't for the sore uvula, I would feel perfectly fine. :D

I promise you I will take it seriously :)

Oh, that is weird. I really hope it clears up soon or that the nurse will have some super speedy very good meds for you!

You sound very sensible so I'm sure you'll be fine!! ;-)

Oh, that is weird. x

I know, this is why I don't think this is a bacterial or viral infection, as I always have fever in these situation.

The problem is, I am losing my voice too, not much but still, and I'm a teacher, so it makes it difficult to "rest my throat".

Oh ouchie. I'm losing my voice too coz of coughing all the time and I'm studying to become a speech therapist and we have to talk a lot at school! I can see myself coming there with my squeek-cough instead of my voice so I can imagine how hard it'd be for you as a teacher!

I hope it gets better soon hon!!

I've had this before a couple of times - usually when I've either had a cold or have been out on the raz. I think mine was due to sleeping with my mouth open and sort of snoring through my throat if that makes sense.

I just drank loads of water and by the evening it had eased although the next day it was worse again. Drank lots the second day and the following day it was ok.

It's true as said before you need to put your health first. The nurse may think it's bacterial and prescribe you antibiotics. As long as you continue with the diet and drinking etc there is no reason to think you will put on loads of weight. This is just a blip and it's not like it's your fault is it?

Good luck - hope you feel better soon!

It is always best Elie to check these things out with your doctor/nurse especially if you have had a strep throat just two weeks ago because you might need another course of antibiotics...

I hope you will be feeling better soon:hug99:

Love Mini xxx

((hugs)) no advice but hope you feel better soon. Would go with the 'see a nurse' about this to be careful.

Thank you girls, you're all so lovely :gen126:

It is much better now. The pharmacist said to garlge salted water and gargle aspirin dissolved in warmish water.

Of course I am drinking a lot :D and I will have it checked if it doesn't get better.

Tomorrow I will try not to use my voice to much as I'm sure this is related in some way.

Champess, I think this is what mya have happened, the breathing through my throat. I asked BF and he said I wasn't snoring but nothing can wake him up, so I don't trust him :p

You are all so great. I don't know what I would do with this forum! :)

Sorry ya have been feeling like crap, try taking some iburofen or parcetamol and also gargling salty water, it should do the trick. It could be an infection or it could be not drinking enough water, hope ya are feeling better soon, take care

Hi girls

The throat is getting worse so I took an appointment to see the nurse (no dr available till Thursday, and tbh I don't think I need a GP to look at my throat :D).

If it wasn't for the sore thraot, I would feeling brilliantly!!!! Hopefully it will soon be gone :D

Those of you with a sore throat, do you drink your water out of a bottle with a sports cap? Thats the only way I can get my water down me and I was suffering with a sore throat, apparently the sports caps hold the bacteria, just a thought xxx
