Not tried Atkins....yet....

Hi, I'm new to this in general and have heard some interesting things about it. I think I've just about grasped what you can and can't eat, was just wondering if it actually works and if anyone here has had any negative effects from it? Thanks, Vickski x

It defo works...I am a low carber even if it isn't strictly Atkins style...it helps to balance out those cravings and the sugar spikes you have grown used to eating loads of processed food and especially sugar...way more energy with higher protein intake and also I have had no negative side effects, it's all positive...you lose weight slower than the vlcds (very low calorie diets) but you are taking in way more calories, you don't have to count calories, you just watch your carb intake...it's slow and steady and it gears you up for healthy eating when you near your goal weight, you have grown used to food and it's very experimental compared to most other diets I have found...

The biggest bonus for me with low carb is that I NEVER feel hungry and I've stopped my evening mini-binges. It's great! Disadvantages? Well some foods are totally banned of course (especially in the early stages) but if you can live with that, the benefits completely outweigh the small sacrifices.

'Unpleasant side effects can occur with the Atkins diet. To start with, burning fat results in the production of substances called ketones as your body enters a state called ketosis. This can result in bad breath, tiredness, weakness, dizziness, insomnia and nausea. Constipation may also occur as a consequence of avoiding typically high-fibre foods such as fruit, veg, beans, wholewheat pasta, brown rice, wholegrain breakfast cereals and jacket potatoes.' - taken from a diet reveiew website.

I've had the day 3 headache, the minging breath and the constipation, but the plus sides far out-weigh the negatives in my opinion. I've lost almost 12lbs in 3 weeks and have tonnes more energy, lost inches from around bum and thighs, and can have a full english breakfast every day and eat as much as I like, which after doing a VLCD was very important! LOL. :D

Hi Vickski, it worked for me.

:D
