hi there
i'm 5 1" are there any other littleuns out there?

i was wondering .... we all eat the same packs - does being short mean my weight loss will be slower?

what i mean is...

if you are say, 5 10" - wouldn't that mean you are eating 'less' than me?

just a thought (- i'm looking for an excuse for my paltry loss this week lol!)

sorry a bit of a ramble

Sorry Daisy Im a little un too same height as you, and you will have good weeks and not as good weeks!! it is the bad weeks you worry over!! Nice try though Im liking your thinking LOL

My mum is 4' 10" :)

It always bothered me that she got the same as me on Slimming world, in terms of healthy A and healthy b choices.

I don't think your height will make a lot of difference to your loss really.

I was thinking the same hun, it's the same as with men having the same as women just seems a bit wrong to me! x

yes it is strange - surely our basic needs for calories is less naturally?
so it would stand to reason that if i'm taking in the same calories as someone a foot taller than me thay will lose faster.

not really bothered by it, just pondering! (ooo, i like that word!)

Oh to be a tall person!

Basically Daisy the general rule to weight loss is so.

Men loose it faster as we know. The taller you are the quicker you will loose it too. Calorie in take is dependent on height and gender. On average men take 2500 calories and women about 500 or so less.

So its not wonder you would loose it slowly, but not to worry loosing it you are and you look lovely anyway :)

forgot to add im 5'11 just a shade under 6

But doesn't that mean men should have more packs/calories as a general rule on ll then?

thanks huseyin.

hey d
i was told that my fast weight loss was due to my height- am about 6ft in fact my llc said it was just like a mans!!

Regardless of height and gender, 500 calories is realistically the minimum amount you can have safely - for men to have more would make no sense as the diet is all about minimalisation of calorific intake. Yes, a 6' man could probaly have up to 750, maybe 800 calories' worth of packs and still easily lose, but what would be the point? 500 is all we *need* for this to work.

So yes, in a normal situation, men generally require more calories (in theory) than women; but then, in theory, a 5'4", 15stone woman would be requiring to intake more calories a day to maintain her weight than a 5'11", 11stone man.

So it is all relative to your weight, height and gender.

Men losing faster is more to do with how our bodies work, not so much the calories; we are far less inclined to retain water, and our bodies don't feel as much of a need to "hang on" to fat stores in places that would be benificial; on a man, there is no area that the body considers 'benificial' to store fats, but on a woman (especially women within child-bearing age) there are numerous areas that the body would consider to have benifits to store fats, not to mention that carrying a child and nurturing it takes a huge amount of energy, so ladies are more inclined to 'hang on' to your fat stores for this as well.

This is why a woman's healthy bodyfat percentage is between 20% and 35%, whereas a mans is between 10% and 20%; mens bodies simply don't think they need it as much as women's bodies think they do.

lol re Pete's science lesson. All great apart from a woman's BMI should be a maximum of 25 not 35%

It's all relative really. I used to be incredibly fit and weight 11 stone. But I had a BMI of only 16% (worked out by a physiologist with calipers etc) Now technically my weight put me just into the overweight category, but because I had so much lean meat and muscle on me, my body fat was actually much less. I've been back to my old physiologist recently and for 'fun' she did a proper BMI measurement for me because I was worried about how much muscle I've lost. Turns my BMI is 19.1% and not the 22.2% my LLC's chart says it is! If you think abou that it lbs, it's quite a lot of weight.

So my BMI was actually less 10 years ago but I weighed more. Figure that one out Pete!

The was the LLC works out your BMI is pretty basic and if you were to go to get it done properly you'd probably find it was quite different to what it says on a chart.

The fact is, we're all different. I know I'll always be verging on the edge of 'overweight' according to the graphs because of my body composite (I've had LOADS of experiements done on me by students!)

My point is, we're all invariably different and lose weight at different rates. 500 cals has surely got to be the minimum anyone can survive on?

Anyway, I'm off to start a new topic on 'what's your real BMI!'

Dear Vertically Challenged friends!

Back when I started on my little LL journey in September I was 5'5". Now, a few months on, I am 5 stone lighter and an inch taller. Oh yes, you read me correctly. I have grown a whole inch. I'm now 5'6".

Now, you may be bewildered by this, but apparently it is quite normal. It is to do with posture. When a person is heavier they hold themselves a different way and so you seem to be shorter than what you are. I am not saying you'll go from 4'10" to 6'!! But you may find an extra inch!!

Love and hugs,

B x

oooo how exciting, i might get to be taller!!!
5 2" here i come!

I wasn't talking about BMI, I was talking about bodyfat percentage :p

but you're right that we are all different :)

shame that - i could do the bmi 35 no probs ;-)
