Olive Oil Crisis

Hello Everyone.

I'm a newbie and I live in the South of France and so I am going it alone (I have the books from when I was living in the UK - but I still have yet to buy some scales for my first weigh in!!).

My problem is that I've been everywhere to buy "Fry Light" but it just doesn't seem to exist here - everyone (including me) uses virgin olive oil on absolutely everything. I've asked around and people look at me as if I'm crazy.

The next time I visit the UK I can of course pick some up but that's not going to be for a good while yet (especially with all that snow!!)...

You can buy over here a olive oil dispenser that sprays rather than drizzles. Would it be the same to buy one of those and fill it with really good quality virgin olive oil or am I going to have to count as syns every time I cook, or dress a salad?

This diet is quite difficult for me as it is, as I obviously also can't get hold of all those brand name foods everyone keeps mentioning - Morrisons sausages etc. So I'm basically having to cook everything from scratch. I don't mind too much as I love cooking but there will be times I am sure when I feel an urge to eat something quickly and I'll give in to chocolate - or more likely, a bottle of wine!!! ...I'm hoping by reading the posts and the diaries, you guys will help me stay on the straight and narrow.

Many thanks for any advice you can give xx

I think if you bought sprayer and sprayed it the Syns would be negligable so I'd say it's ok. How many Syns do you use per day?

Thanks Taz - I'm only on day 3. Had nightmare (and posted all about it) on the first day as a friend came by very depressed so we got drunk together - 52 syns!!! Yesterday was great, only 4 syns and today I'm doing well - I had fruit for breakfast, oven baked fish and baked vegetables for lunch - the only thing was I drizzled oil on the fish (otherwise too dry) and the same for the veggies - although I only used one tbsp of oil on the veggies and this was shared between 2 of us....

That was a question I wanted to ask someone....I'm aiming to lose about a stone by the end of March - so I thought I should stick to maximum 7 syns a day, as I thought this would speed things up - is this the right way of looking at it? Its been years since I went to a SW club and I've forgotten a lot that I was told back then.

Many thanks for your help ;) xx

As you don't have a lot to lose you don't really need more than 10 per day. I'd say aim for 7/8 then the other 2 will allow for any hidden extras like oil etc. remember you can have a tablespoon of olive oil as a HE B too. Don't depive yourself of anything though, if you fancy getting drunk one night then do it, just get back on plan the next day. How current are your books?

I only have one book - "food optimising" with a yellow cover, which I've had for about 6/7 years!!! I'm sure I had another one, but it must have got lost in the move...I guess I should get new ones, can you buy them online? Thanks so much for your help.

That will not have ANY current information in it! You really do need a new book but don't buy them off ebay as the only up to date ones go for ridiculous prices! YOu can do SW online by joining BodyOptimise or you can do postal membership. Both have costs but it's best to know you are getting the official information from SW rather than out of date incorrect info. Get posting so I can PM you! I think you need 20 posts

You're a star Taz!! I've just posted my diary to keep tabs. I'll join online as I don't want to wait for the books to arrive - just another excuse to put off till tomorrow.....I'll get posting, no worries there, I have loads of questions!! Thanks again for all your help xx

Have you tried wrapping the fish in foil and baking it with lemon juice?? I cook my salmon like this and its lovely and moist.

There's an idea - Thanks Mrs V....I actually have a salmon steak in the freezer, so I'll try it and see if there's any real difference to how I usually cook it - I've kind of got into the habit of drizzling olive oil on everything - things are gonna change round here!!!

my dad used to fill a spray bottle with 1/4 olive oil and 3/4 water and use as a fake frylight....just had to make sure it was shaken each time it was used.

i see you live in villefranche sur mer... my boyfriends nan live there and we go every year. if you click on my profile and look at my photo album you might be able to see your house! ;)

Hi Karen - I'm getting message that I don't have permission to access your photos - but I live right next door to the church in the old town - there's a little square with a fountain - that's my "front garden". Are you on Facebook? - I have some photos there. xx Its a great idea to add water - especially when cooking meat etc. when you only really need to seal the meat. Thanks.
