Off to a terrible start

Hi to everyone. I am new to this forum and only started SW yesterday. I did well all day but unfortunately a friend dropped in who is having problems....we ended up sharing a bottle of white wine then some vodka with a mixer!!! I have obviously now well exceeded my syns (52 I counted) but....should I try to catch up for yesterday during the week or should I just start from scratch again today?

I am looking to lose a stone and a half for the summer.

Thanks for any advice.

Just start again from scratch today. If you spend the whole week panicking about yesterday and running to catch up to try to claw those syns back, you're only going to make yourself miserable, and to be honest, far more likely to fall off the wagon later in the week.

Don't beat yourself up about it, we're all human. Just look on it as one of those things, put it behind you and move on.

you are allowed 105 syns per week so dont start again today , count the syns in and cut down for a few days, good luck ,look forward to seeing your losses
 
Thanks Lady Helen...I guess that's really what I wanted to hear!! I'm setting myself between 7-10 syns per day - it would have been a nightmare to catch up!!!
 
Oh my goodness!! Maybe you're right too.....I guess what I'll do is do my best - if I don't make it, I'll discount Monday :) I thought by sticking to 7-10 syns it would be better for me as I only need to lose around 21lbs??
 
I'd say a mixture of the two above!

Yes, start again today, but don't panic about your syns. Allow yourself 5-10 a day (usually you're allowed up to 15)
So you can claw back a few syns, but also still have a few syns every day if you want them, so you don't feel like you're depriving yourself :)

Oh, and if your friend pops round again, you can give her wine, but you don't need to have it with her! It's lovely to do, of course, but you're doing this weight loss for you, and it's your choice to drink the vino or not! :)
 
I suppose it's a matter of perspective really as to which you do. Remember the concept of "Flexible Syns" too, which allows you to go over your syns up to a certain amount that you choose and then resume the plan as normal the following day - it allows you to cope with special occasions and meals out without feeling guilty. You could always count yesterday as a Flexi day - and just carry on as normal from today. I've had plenty of weeks in the past where I've had a flexi day and still lost.

Unless you are totally prepared (shopping in place etc etc) the 1st day or 2 (if not week) are days for getting the feel of the whole thing so don't beat yourself up too much.

One day out the whole of your journey is nothing xx
 
similar thing happened to me in my first week - though it was with pizza rather than alcohol. My friend invited us round for tea and she gave us pizza and garlic bread, I could hardly refuse and I was really hungry so just ate it. Didnt know how to work out the syn content either as wasnt going to ask her to get all the packaging from the bin! I just drew a line under that and carried on as normal (with usual allocation of syns each day) and I lost 1.5lbs which I was very happy about.
 
Thanks to everyone. Feeling much less guilty than this morning when I woke up!! I've been really good today. I'm doing this alone as I now live in France - tried SW in UK so still have the books - its just not as much fun on your own - I think this forum will be great for me...Thanks again.
