Plateau advice

Hi all.

I haven't lost for a few weeks now :break_diet: and I think it's because I have been under-eating.

So this morning, now that FF is back :)banana dancer:) I have been sorting out how many cals I should be on.

I amended my stats slightly, to lose 2lbs per week, and it states I should eat around 650 cals!!! This isn't healthy right? For the last few weeks I have probably been eating just under 1000 per day. To be honest, I find it hard to eat much more anyway, as I have totally lost my appetite and am more than happy with a large bowl of cereal in the evening! I may try and bump it up with a protein shake, as I don't get much protein at all during the week, but usually have a protein feast at weekends.

Do you think I need to hit my 1142 cals this week in order to see a loss again? At the mo my FF profile is set to sedentary, at 1lb a week (anything more results in between 650-850 cals) and gives me 1142 cals per day.....I am also doing 3 x 1 hour exercise a week, which I may increase in a couple of weeks, but don't want to add that to my profile as it get's a bit confusing for me then  lol

Right. FF just works things out according to the figures. 3,500 cals=pound, so by reducing 7,000 cals you'll lose 2lbs. And no, it doesn't quite work like that. Some other calorie counting websites wont suggest under 1100 cals regardless of what you want to lose, because it's hard to get all the nutrients at anything under 1100 (unless it's a formulated shake such as CD etc)

You are probably in ketosis. You can either up protein, so you get more calories in, or up carbs to make yourself hungrier to make it more possible.

I think you need to up your calories to at least 1100 whatever. It may well give your body the boost that it needs, though I can't say for definite that you will lose weight, as it depends on many variables. It probably would do though.

As you get closer to goal, it will be hard to lose that 2lbs a week. You need to be patient.

Keep the exercise up, and don't go under 1100 and you'll get there, even if it does take a little longer than you want, it'll be safer.

Best of luck to you :)

Thanks KD. It all gets a bit confusing sometimes, when you're not loosing anyway. When it's coming off on a weekly basis it's all fine, lol. Thanks for your advice. I think by adding two small protein shakes and aiming for 1100 minimum it should stand me in better stead. Thanks again :D

Hi Gareth. Usually it's a bowl of fruit and fibre. Yeah, the plan for the shake is two-fold really. Up my cals and increase my protein during the week. I used to drink a lot of this when I was training properly a couple of years ago, but it takes some getting used to again, so am going to start with a couple of small glasses a day for now. :D

Hope it works out better for you Nat, but I agree that anything below 1100 just isn't healthy no matter what size anyone is! You say you're not hungry enough to worry about it, but that's likely because you're stomach has now become used to it. I think I would chew someone's arm off if I had to maintain that! Please eat a bit more hun and by all means keep up the exercise! :) xx
