I went to Tesco!

Yesterday I called into Tesco (normally shop online).

I only needed a few bits and bobs for the children. I was really really good and only got those bits, no extras and was really shocked at how cheap my small shop was!:D

In the past I would have filled my trolley with alsorts of treats and snacks just of the sake of it, using the children as an excuse to buy the things I wanted.

I picked up some sweets for the children, then put them back. I must learn NOT to reward my children with foods. I don't want them to grow up and have the same emotional relationship with food that I'm now trying to break.

Since starting this diet I have been so much more organised and planned for the childrens meals (I have 4 children). They are eating so much heathier and I've already noticed a big difference in their engery levels and moods. Great thing is that they haven't even notcied the changes I've made to their diet!

Really identify with this Lucy... my kids are teens now and I have spent forever buying them treats that I realize now were really for me much of the time. Now I am not there to mop up the sweet-treat leftovers, eat the things they didn't have yet etc... well, it just sits there. And so now I don't buy it any more and there are no complaints. I honestly never realized this until just after New Year, when I over-bought so much choc & cake & pudding stuff for the party/visitors/family, and found it was almost all still there afterwards. I was so shocked. There had never been leftover yule logs or mince pies in our house before... ever.
I guess it was me all along!

DH did the food shop at the weekend but heaven knows what he bought because I had to go to Tesco last night too.

I kept picking up treats for the boys read the ingredients, then put them back, thinking they dont really need any of that. Everything I looked at was food I would have eaten myself. I also noticed just how many special offers there were on cakes, biscuits and snacks.

I did buy a pack of 4 muffins and offered one to DS, this was about 3 hours after his dinner. He considered it for a moment and then refused saying he wasn't really that hungry and was going to bed soon. It struck me that I would never have done this as a child.

i totally agree about being more organised and healthy for the kids meals, and making my husband a nice meal when he's home from work. there just seems to be more time to cook and plan...

hmm, was i REALLY spending all my time eating before cd?! if not, where has all this time (and inclination) come from?
