Curry

Does anyone have any nice curry recipes (I'm thinking of making a chicken one). I'm not into creamy sauces, I prefer ones with a bit of a kick.

I'm hoping to make it in my slow cooker, but thought I'd ask you wonderful lot if you had any ideas before I try it on my own!

Have you had a look at the recipies at the top of the page Hun??? There will be plenty posted up there.

I use asda chickpea dahl as a base as its really spicy and add chicken and onions to it mmmmmmmmmmmm

Hi MrsV, I did have a search but it only brought up 2 and they were creamy/masala types.

I just wondered if anyone had a tried and tested slow cooker one.

I'm sure I'll find something x

My neighbour is Indian and made me the most amazing curry which was only 3 syns per serving (we used a tbsp of oil). I'll see if I can get her permission to post it on here.

It takes a lot of effort and standing over the stove, and then popping it in the oven but the flavours were amazing. There was only one ingredient (black cardamom pods) that I didn't have in my cupboard. It had about 25 ingredients but the taste made my mouth tingle!

Anyways its mi m8 Al's recipe and its blumin luvley (well for me it was) so i thought ide share it with you nice people and see what ya think.

Now please dont slate me if ive got things wrong, this cooking lark & syn counting is all pretty new to me and i may have some bits wrong, but im sure someone will put me right.

Curry (serves 4) works out around 3 1/2 syns a portion
Fry Light1lb Chicken / Beef etc
1 medium onion chopped
1 tablespoon tomato sauce (1syn)
1 tablespoon Honey or Golden Syrup (Allow 3syns)
1 tablespoon tomato puree (1/2 syn)
1 tablespoon of sweetener
2 tablespoons of mango chutney (allow 4syns)
1 tablespoon curry powder (which ever takes ya fancy, mild, hot etc)

1 eating apple chopped
a sprinkling of sultanas (28grams is 4syns)
a squirt of lemon juice
half a red pepper chopped
Garlic or ginger if you fancy any!

Fry the meat in some fry light for around 3 - 4 minutes then add all the ingredients and just cover with water, Cook on low heat for 1 - 1 1/2 hours

Me too! Me too! Mrs V - Meatball Curry sounds tops!

I tend to just put frozen spinach into a suacepan of passata, add seasoning (coriander, cumin etc) boil until the spinach melts and then add mushrooms. I usually add quorn chicken style pieces or fillets if I'm on a green day or chicken or lamb goes well if you're on red as the sauce is free on both. It's a bit saag like really but no oil.

Hiya

The Jamie Oliver book Ministry of Food has a lovely recipe for a rogan josh which we have adapted using frylight to make a practically sin free curry

And it tastes lovely :)

I love indian food :)

Chicken Curry

Here it is! A lot of steps and a lot of ingredients but worth it! I'm making it tonight for the first time on my own so I'll let you know how it goes and if I wrote down the ingredients and method correctly!

6 syns for the whole lot or 1 HEX A if using olive oil

Indian Chicken
4 chicken thighs (skinless with bone)
1 tbsp oil
1 ½ onions, chopped finely
ginger, chopped (small piece – size of half your thumb)
4-5 cloves garlic, minced
2 black cardamom pods (kali elaichi), whole (I found these in the ethnic spice section at a large Tesco)
4 green cardamom pods, lightly crushed
1 ½ tsp cumin seeds
10 black peppercorns
2 bay leaves
5 whole cloves
½ cinnamon stick
2 thin green chillies, chopped in half width ways
¾ tsp ground turmeric
1/8 tsp ground black pepper
½ tsp ground cumin
¾ tin chopped tomatoes
¼ tsp garam masala
4 heaped tbsp low fat greek yogurt
2 big handfuls of fresh coriander, chopped

1) Put the oil in a wok or pan and heat. Add the cardamom pods, cumin seeds, peppercorns, bay leaves, cloves and cinnamon stick. Stir for 15-30 seconds to release their aroma.

2) Add onion and cook until softened - 6-7 mins

3) Add garlic, ginger & chillies and cook for about 5 mins. Add a little water if pan dries out.

4) Add the ground spices (except garam masala) and cook for 1-2 mins. (adding water as needed to loosen)

5) Add chicken and brown for about 5 mins.

6) Add the tomatoes and cook for a few minutes.

7) Add the garam masala and cook for about 5 mins.

8) Add the yogurt and simmer for a few mins.

9) Add half of the coriander and cook for a few mins. Add a pinch of salt and a pinch of sweetener. (can add sultanas and cashews at this point, if desired)

10) Continue to cook down, adding a little water if necessary. Cook down for about 10 mins.

11) Cover dish with foil and bake in the oven on 170 for about 40 mins.

12) Add a little water at end if depending on the consistency you want. Just before serving, garnish with remaining coriander and a very small pinch of garam masala.

i make this one and its lovely
6 tomatoes
2 onions
3 cloves garlic
1tsp garam massala
1tsp coriander
1tsp cumin
1tsp tumeric
1sp black mustard seeds
cracked black pepper
salt
blitz the whole lot down and pour over whichever meat your using and leave overnight in fridge if poss
then fry in frylight 1tsp cumin seeds for a min or 2 and add the marinade and meat and stir fry for about 10 or 15 mins then add a splash of water depending on how thick you like it and cover and simmer half way throught add about 4 or 5 green chillies split and deseeded and cover for remaining cooking time which will depend on what meat you use as lamb will take longer than chicken or turkey then chop mountian sof fresh coriander on top
hope you like it my fave:D
