Feel so weird after listening to Glenn Harrold....

On Mon 5th Jan I started smoking again after 4 happy smoke-free years. It was finally a book called the Nicotine Trick by Neil Casey that helped me. I'd felt a bit panicky Mon morning and asked a friend for a cigarette when she was lighting up. Was so mad at myself.

Tried Neil's method again (a visualisation thing) for 6 days but it doesn't seem to work this time.:( Also tried patches and lasted about 14 hrs two times. Only things I ain't tried in past are inhalator and hypnosis.

In a matter of days I am back up to 20+ a day. I have lost the book and now I need it I can't find it. Damn!

Grrr. Annoying isn't it. I did the same thing, and foolishly didn't knock it on the head as soon as I slipped.

Never heard of the Nicotine Trick book. How does that work?

Oh Lyn, that's sad news love, just goes to show that it's a life time addiction.

It teaches you a 3 step visualisation thing that you do every time before lighting up, creates a negative association in your mind with the cig you're smoking. You're supposed to imagine a snake biting you and injecting a painless poison (nicotine). A friend suggested it might work if I change snake to a spider this time.

I've bought a bottle of Nicorette nasal spray, and chosen Satuday 24th as my quit day although I've been down this road before with various NRT. My next move will be Neil's method again but imagining a spider. :(

I could have kicked myself Jim. Night I started again I had terrible heart burn and had to take an extra stomach-acid tablet, I was very unsettled and couldn't sleep for ages. I reckon it was being around other smokers quite regularly in the last few months that put me back on them.

I know Lyn, all my mates smoke and the temptation is really hard.

I used my spray this morning (runny eyes and nose from it, what fun!) and held out for 2 hours til lighting up. Only smoked 11 so far, would be at least 20 by now. Gonna use my spray from now til bedtime.

Is it OK to do both Lyn? I thought it was one or the other.

Oh I can so sympathise with you. 9 years ago I started again after being stopped for 2 years and not a day went by that I didn't kick myself. I can now say I've been stopped successfully for nearly 3 months and will also say (and this is with my hand on my heart) it was the easiest stopping smoking that I have ever attempted..... and I tried to stop probably about 6 times over the past 18 months.

Go to your doctor and ask for Champix. They are available on prescription. My sister and dad are starting on them in the next couple of weeks as they've seen how well I've managed. It's a brain tablet that doesn't let you crave for cigs. Infact you forget completely about smoking unless somebody lights up or asks you how you're getting on. You honestly don't even want one. Best thing I ever did and hopefully I learned that I can't be a social smoker (having a fag with a drink!) and to just not even go there. I hope with all my heart I will never smoke again.

Good luck in your journey. Feel free to get in touch if you want any additional info - I'd be happy to help.

All the best, Sherry.

Good luck Lyn... I'm coming up for two years and I know that it's a permanent addiction. I'm a "smoker who doesn't smoke at the moment". I know that. I just say: "NOPE". Not One Puff Ever, because I know that, unlike some of my friends, I could never be a social smoker.

You did it once... it won't be easy, as that nasty nicotine stuff has got you prisoner again, but you can do it.

What IS ironic about your post is that a friend who quit several years ago with Allan Carr's book, like me, told me recently to be careful around the four year mark as she knows some other people who picked it up again around then. Over confidence? Feeling they'd "done it"?

So I continue to think in the present. "I am a smoker but I don't smoke". If it's over and done with, there's no risk. There's always a risk.

Good luck this weekend... remember that a craving *only* lasts 90 seconds...

and how true is that.

I have a 20 pack left still so I'm gonna smoke em and get temptation out the way. I had actually been thinking of Champix as a woman I knew stopped for 3 mos before starting again round about Xmas with a drink (damn the stuff, always put me back on em til I quit the booze too lol) and another woman is off them about 4 mos with Champix.

Hello All,

I too am back smoking part time, I gave up in March 08 and lasted for about 6 months - The thing is my fella doesn't know and I don't smoke around him or my parents - he suspects as he often says he can smell it on me - I would tell him but he totally hates it - I mean really hates it - I did smoke when I first met him but then gave up after we'd been seeing each other for a month.

I know it's stupid and I want to stop but I kid myself and think well I can control it - so it's not a problem!! How crazy am I.

I need a method to stop that he won't detect - I can't use patches or sit their reading a book  any suggestions anyone???

I'm using a mixture of nico gum and sugar free, I'm using the sugrar free gum mostly. I have a chew on a nico gum when it gets really bad.

I have 8 cigs left now, I am now buying anmore when theyre gone. Still have 3 patches left but they fall off unless I stick em on with with surgical tape lol. I might look at the books on Amazon again.

I guess one way to quit would be not to carry any money when out then you can't buy any more... I did this when I first started my weight loss campaign figuring the only way I'd get hold of extra food at lunchtime or on the way home would be if I stole it! Correctly guessing that even I'd not go that far, I simply stopped carrying card or money with me. OK dangerous if you commute long distances but ok for me!

Once you've gone one day without, you'll not want to break that "24 hours without nicotine" feeling... etc.

Frankly I don't think my OH would notice what I'm reading!
