Down and overwhelmed by the task ahead

I need some inspirational advice 'cos I'm feeling I'm never going to be in a position where I'll feel comfortable in a swimsuit and overcome my addiction to eating.

I just bought a sie 14 and a size 16 swimsuit, halterneck styles, bargains at £2.50 each. But when I tried them on rather than feeling pleased with my bargains it's sent me into a downward spiral of self doubt and self hate.
I look horrendous in them. I know that some would be really happy to be in a size 14 or 16, and I am, but I'm such a horrid shape! I look 7 months pregnant from side profile, and my floppy boobs hang out of the sides of the swimsuits (under arm area) and have either loose or lumpy skin.

I find it so hard to just make it through one day without going over my Syns and am always craving chocolate which makes me a bit of a miseryguts.

Today is daughter's birthday party at Pizza Hut and I don't want to be the one to sit there and not have a piece of pizza....I love pizza...I love food, and to eat, full stop! On the positive side I haven't used any Syns (yet!) other than 2 on Coffeemate.

How is it that some SW slimmers manage to do so very well and lose in such a fast time yet others, like me, seem to be endlessly trying to shed pounds - I've never lost more than 9 pounds before losing my way and reverting to bad habits. Already we are almost at the end of the third week of the new year and I have only a shaky one pound loss to show for it.

How do I stay focused (even a holidayin the summer isn't enough to make me focus now, before it's too late to make a decent difference), and where do I find the willpower to overcome cravings?

Sorry for my miserable post, I'm just hoping someone can inspire me to stay positive for more than half a day.
:break_diet:
Any words of advice for me...please?

Hi there I am in the same boat and i sympathise. I have a wedding in 7 months and I am a size 24 and was a 14 when i first got with hubby 2 b.
try and look at it in the way that when you reach for the food try in your head to say.... do i really want this? Is this piece of chocolate or whatnot going to change me for the better or the worse?
I dunno what else to say as I am just coming out of that rut but try nad think positive and imagine yourself slim!
x

im in the rut too, im currently a size 14-16 and want to be a 12, i too look up the duff and even did a test just in case. i dont know if i would have felt better if i was at least i would have an excuse and not just that im fat from eatin too much chocolate. you have to want it more than anything (lossing the weight that is). write down how you feel at the moment and everytime you reach for the bad stuff read it first and think, "i dont want to feel like this for the rest of my life, i want to wake up feeling good and sexy". you could try the putting a bad pic on the fridge or cupboard.......keep coming on here, the girls are ace and we all get through these bad times together.

keep smiling, you can do it

I think you have been amazing loosing the weight, but now you need to loose inches, which can only be done through exersisze. but you need to enjoy it.. i am never motivated to do it at home, but i have just started a fitness class for begginers trying to loose weight and get toned, maybe look for something like that. Thats the only way it think your body is going to loose the excess skin.

If you stick to the plan you can lose 2lbs a week. Your ticker says 29 pounds to go, that's not very much if you get your head around the plan. A holiday in the summer is an ideal opportunity to get those pounds off. Think what you look like in your cozzy right now, and how you could look in it in the summer if you get those 29 pounds off. At 2 pounds a week, you'd be at target for the end of April, so even if you lose at 1lb a week, you can still be almost there for your summer holiday. Think how much better you'd feel on holiday.

If you love chocolate, plan it into your day. Don't deny yourself it. Even if you have it every day, it doesn't matter as long as you syn it. You can have 10 - 15 syns a day. Cheaper (on the syns) chocolate like curly wurly is 6 syns, so you could have two if you want. Check in your book to find which chocolate is the lowest syn wise and incorporate it every day.

You can count a slice or two of pizza as today's syns but you could always go for the pasta option at Pizza Hut. That way it doesn't look like you're not eating, but you're having a healthy choice that fits in with the plan.

If you really want to lose the weight you have to turn your head around and think positive. Ok so you love pizza, do you love being overweight too? When you grab that slice of pizza too many, create a visual of it sat on your stomach in your swimming cozzy, poking out for everyone to see.

The main thing is, you have to want to do this without making excuses or putting obstacles in your way.

I don't mean to sound harsh, just trying to get a message across that you can do this and you've not got that much to shift. Me on the other hand... another 7 ish stone to go..... maybe that's why I'm so focussed, my target it a long way off yet.

Good luck and keep popping in here, you will get so much support the weight will fall off from smiling and giggling at the posts :D

Hiya, first of all watch this - YouTube - Lose 5 stone like i did. Watch and see Slimming World
It just shows, it is possible!
Sometimes it is so easy to get stuck in a rut, and feel like the task is so huge that it feels like you will never get there. Trust me, i know, i have about 8/9stone to lose, so i have so far to go. But i know that i want to be slim. I want to be healthy, I want to be able to wear lovely clothes and to be able to shop anywhere i want! I want to feel pretty. Thats the motivation for me, anyway. You need to remember your reasons for wanting to lose weight, remember how you felt when whatever happened that made you realise you need to make a change. The happines you will feel for five minutes of eating the chocolate is nothing in comparison to how you will feel in your swimming costume, looking gorgeous and feeling bloody amazing!

Its much easier to cheat on slimming world if you are doing excerise, why dont you try something fun like buying a little mini trampoline? or even just putting some music on and dancing around? its all fun, and it will help you lose weight and tone up.

Its so hard to overcome cravings, find substitutes? i love sweet things, so i love meringue nests with fruit in it. and if you eat free food all day, its fine to have a small bit of chocolate. There is no need to feel deprived on slimming world, the syns are there to be used - if you crave something, have it, but fit it around everything else you eat!

Good luck, I would LOVE to be buying size 14/16 clothes by the way! haha :)

Hi Hun
I felt so sad reading your post because you seem so frustrated, I am SURE you will do it, especially if you keep coming to this board for support, ive lost 6.5 stone with slimming world so far and iv ebeen starting to lose it so much slower now ( i have about 2-3 stone left to go ) but since finding this board i have found a new level of inspiration and determination. I have the enthusiasm that i had at the beginning .. back. Theres no way im going to undo all my hard work ,and whenever i think about eating naughty stuff, i just think about how long it will take to eat it(minutes or seconds probably) but it could take me a few weeks to get back off the few lbs it might make me put on .
My consultant sent me an email a while back and in it it said
Nothing tastes as good, as being slim feels !!
so i always try to remember this during times of weakness, if i was going to somewhere like pizza hut, i would order a chicken salad for me and would have a little taste of my hubbys or kids pizza so atleast im having a taste and thats good enough for me !
Remember we are all here for you to help you get to target and you will succeed, just keep telling yourself you will.

also forgot to say about the chocolate cravings, I tend to have a curly wurly (6 syns) but i will only buy them one at a time as i might be tempted to eat more than one if i had a pack of 4 in the house, or if i feel like a chocolate fix, i will have a cup of highlights dark hot chocolate (only 1.5 syns) and it seems to take the edge off the craving.

or make some rice crispy cakes or cornflake cakes, use highlights and runny honey - not sure on the measurements but they only work out a couple of syns each.
:D

I got in the habit of trying different diets and would only last 6 weeks then binge eat and would spend weeks ignoring the problem pile back on all the weight! Then if i look back at all the time ive been trying to loose weight on and off I could have reached my target about 10 times over.

Im going for the slow and steady approach and hopefully will change the way I eat for good. I love food and would eat for the sake of eating its a hard habit to break but this is the only diet where I can eat if i want to theres no limit.

Take one day at a time and im sure you will get there, the weight coming off is the easy part the hard part is changing our relationship with food

I wore a swimsuit yesterday for the first time in years, i'm a size 14/16 too and although i didn't feel gorgeous i did feel quite good in it.

I bought it from Bravissimo, it wasn't cheap but oh my god they are so comfy and flattering. It has a proper bra with bones in the swimsuit and it has an extra panel in the tummy area that flattens my tummy.

I highly reccomend them for bras and swimsuits/bikinis, for us curvy ladies.

i agree with all the advice above.

also i find if i eat lots of slow release carbs i don't crave chocolate, etc. this is because my your blood sugar levels will be at an even level. when we eat a meal, or go for long periods without food, we naturally want something sugary to finish with but if you have something like a jacket potato with beans or a pasta dish you're less likely to want sugar after and also try snacking during meals on free foods like fruit and muller lights, as this will satisfy your sweet tooth.

what a great post annie!:D ive got tons to lose! liturally!:ashamed0005: but im not losing motivation!

Choccieaddict have you ever felt that feeling when everyone is looking at YOU in your swimming costume? i have and its the worst feeling ever! thats why the next time i am seen in a swimming costume on the beach i will not be the one sticking out looking like ive been stitched into my cossie! i will look and feel amazing! this really is one of the only diets that works for me ive done loads of others and they work for a while but the weight always comes back + some more:(
what i finds helps me going is setting small targets and when i get to them i buy myself somthing that i really want (not food! ha ha!:D) it spurs you on for that little bit longer:)
by the time i go on holiday in october i WILL be 5 stone lighter and maybe alittle bit more.

you can do it! we all can we just need to fight that little food addict in our heads! (well i think mines a big food addict!:D)

A Scottish comedienne lost loads by saying to herself "I'll have that tomorrow" whenever she wanted crisps or choccie or anything high-calorie. Of course, tomorrow never came, but she never felt she was denying herself by doing this. She could, if she wanted, have it tomorrow. It sounds silly, I know, but it does work.

Of course, with SW, you can have your choccie - just factor it in!

You don't look as bad as you think you do, trust me. (We never are. I've spent all my life thinking I was fat and ugly and just seen a video from a friend's 21st and thought: "Wow, I looked ok." I looked just like everyone else. Not like Angelina Jolie, sadly, but certainly not like Waynetta Slob either!) And equally, you're not a "failure" because you've only lost one pound. Pick up a pound of butter - aren't you glad that's not on you any more and aren't you determined it won't come back?

It truly sounds as if you need to exercise to get your skin in "control". I hate exercise (seriously, we are talking notes from "mum" every week at PE to get excused when I was young) but now do a mixture of walking, yoga, cycling and aerobics (God bless Rosemary Conley. I love her exercise vids). When I have time, I'm taking up dancing too. The mix stops me getting bored and they all do different things to my body. I couldn't do any on Friday, and boy did I miss it!

Don't give up!

Great post, Annie!

great replies everyone I cannot say anymore really the advice is great annie im going to copy some snippets from your post to remind me I want to loose weight and with me its the weekends and I have a lager or glass off wine then I have pizza :break_diet:I want to loose the weigh more than anything .I am size 14.16 too and have 21lb to loose been loosing the same 21lb for 2 years I loose a bit get complacent then put it back on ,if we stick to it we can do it good luck we will be here to support you x

I just realised I haven't replied! I took a few days to think on all your advice, write some of it down, and have now bounced back. I can't help but feel more cheerful, I've been to Spain for four days to celebrate hitting 40 (boo!), eating and drinking, but also doing quite alot of walking around towns and airports and, bonus, one pound lost!
Thanks again for coming to my rescue with your words of wisdom, hope I can do the same for you sometime if you need it.
Tina
