I have gallstones!!! got to have the op :(

lillypop

now got pictures in album
After weeks of not knowing what was it was, blood tests etc. I begged my doctor for an ultra sound for gallstones! And today I went to the hospital, and guess what!! I have several gallstones

In a way I am relieved that now I know I wasnt going mad and something can be done about it.

I've got dhydrocodienes but does anyone know what else I can take? prescribed or un/prescribed? tips to make me feel better?

Doctor said I can still do CD thankfully, but will carry on doing SS+ with food I think whilst I take the painkillers.

Can anyone tell me their experiences with gallstones, having them taken out and what they did to make themselves feel better because some days, I can get stand up straight at the moment!

Avoid all fat in your diet as this will trigger an attack.

I had my gall bladder removed 4 years ago by keyhole surgery, and there was very little pain after the op and virtually no scars left now. It was such a relief to get rid of the gall bladder and know that I would NEVER experience pain like that again! Hope you don't have to wait long for your op x x

thanks very much, good about the fatty stuff, that will stop me eating anything naughty!! glad you dont feel bad now after you've had the op, the pain is nothing I've ever felt before! what did you do to make it go away?

I had my gallbladder out in August just gone. I carried on doing ss until 2 weeks before the op (you have to move up the plans before you have surgery) and then stayed off for the 3 months after as in the CD 'rules'.
I took co-codamol the whole time I was waiting for my op and it was a total godsend, I'd recommend it to anyone with gallbladder pain. you don't need a perscription for it but you do have to get it at a chemist over the counter.
Do you know when you're having your op yet?

heya hun,

I had gallstones aswell and had my gallbladder out by keyhole surgery in 05. It wasnt to bad think i was let home the day or two after. not much pain i ws back driving and everything even though i ws told not to. they told me not to be eating fatty stuff!! hmm!!!
I think the pain is the same for everyone, sometimes i was just bent over in pain like cudnt stand, lie down, walk nothing. I usually got my attacks in the night for some reason. after several trips to hospital etc my doctor finally sent me for a scan  I used to find a trip in the car helped me and the pain went xxxx

hehe!! and what used to happen me aswell was i would be on the way to the hosp and by the time i got there the pain would be gone  there soo stupid here its unreal!

havent got a date yet, need to be referred first to the surgeon but my doctor has just called to suggest some tablets to try and disolve the gallstones so I'm going to try that as well.

i used to have frequent gallbladder attacks...always at night...the only thing that helped as the pain was unbearable was to go to A&E and get an injection of morhine. My attacks were triggered by fatty/oily food. The best painkiller i used was solphedeine max, a combination of codeine and paracetamol. I always keep a supply of these in the house incase of an attack. I know what you're going through its absolute agony and i wish you better x

solphedeine max, a combination of codeine and paracetamol.
Same thing as co-codamol I believe but I think you can pick up a codeine paracetamol mix cheaper at boots than you can get co-codamol anywhere.
Suprised they are saying they are going to try and dissolve the stones though as research shows that this doesn't work long term as the stones just get turned to mush which when you stop taking the pills just goes solid again putting you back to the same state you were in at the beginning (I did my research!;)). Have a look into it lillypop and see what you feel is right for you.

Sorry to hear about the gallstones, but at least you have a diagnosis.

With the dihydrocodeine you can take paracetamol. If you are taking the co-codamol/solpadol these come in varying strengths, would assume you would need the 30/500 dose which is 30mg codeine and 500mg paracetemol per tablet, not sure if you can buy this strength over the counter. Obviously if taking these you wouldn't be able to take paracetemol or dihydrocodeine separately.

What about brufen which helps with inflammation, although unsure if recommended for this.
