Hi. Can someone with a bit of CD experience give me some advice please ? I am on day 10 and have so far done ok but yesterday I slipped. I had two slices of ham. It was ww ham, low fat and all that but what damage will I have done ? Also, if I'm going to cheat, is it best to have an extra CD pack rather than the ham or something ? I know I've to avoid carbohydrate at all cost ! I'm not planning on cheating but if I'm desperate, its best to have a plan ! I didn't even eat it because I was hungry, it was there and just looked so yummy ! Thanks.

Does it matter what the damage is? It's done now, so whatever happens there wont be anything you can do about it.

But....good idea to have a backup plan.

If you are on SS, have another shake. That would be SS+ without the milk, so is fine.

If you are on SS+ go for one of the options in the yellow book set out for 810 - plain low fat cottage cheese, or chicken etc. Do consult the book for portion size.

I'm sure you'll be fine, but whatever happens, don't dwell on it. You're working out what to do next time the urge overwhelms. That's all that matters really :)

It would have done no damage - I have had ham slices at a buffet - it is protein and only 2 think slices will not take you out of ketosis

The good thing (and the bad thing at times!) about Cambridge is there is more than one plan. SS is total abstinance but SS+ 810 etc do allow various foods in varying quantities.

Your 2 slices of ham are not strictly speaking allowed but would probably have similar nutritional values to the chicken/fish allowed in SS+. As cheats go it was a good one.

Why not say to yourself that yesterday you had an unconventional SS+ day rather than a cheat. I'm not saying that its OK to do this but if you put negative thoughts in your head it may lead to more cheating.

If in the future you find you must eat follow one of the other plans and say to yourself that you are having an SS+ or 810 day and will go back to SS tomorrow.

As KD so wisely stated the 'damage' has been done so why worry about it. In my opinion there will be no physical damage and your weight loss for the week wont be affected. However if you beat yourself up about it the psycological damage could be huge. Dont let 2 slices of WW ham be your undoing.

best of luck

Great advice Jac... when I first started, I had to go to a lunch event and worried myself stupid over it... thinking it would unravel everything. My CDC suggested taking an SS+ day as a way to get around it... so I took along a salad to share and had a word with the hostess beforehand. I didn't fess up to doing CD - too unsure of myself back then - but said I was on a healthy eating kick. Having a plan helps!!! I then ate a poached pear (not in the plan!!!) which hostess placed in front of me saying, 'made this especially for you, a healthy choice!'. So I had to eat it really... at least, I chose to! It didn't make a big dent to my loss that week and I didn't beat myself up about it... as Jac says, that's where the damage starts. You start to panic and think you've blown it, so then you DO blow it... don't let that happen. You're OK!!!!
You said you weren't even hungry... can you think of a way of stopping yourself from nibbling, being more aware of that impulse to taste things? A pic on the fridge, a motivational quote? Good luck!!!

Thank you all so much. I'm paranoid about going out of ketosis and slowing my weight loss down. I'm due to see my CDC next Monday, I will have been SS for two weeks then and that is my first weigh in. I will talk to her abit more about what to do when there are hurdles like functions and business lunches etc. She is really nice and I'm sure will help but was so focused on just getting started at our first meeting, I didn't really have any questions. I have to say, having dieted for more than 20 years, I think I've actually found something that suits me. I like knowing exactly what I'm going to have (or not !). Made sausage and mash for the family last night and resisted that but I think maybe that's why I had the ham - a reward for resisting sausage and mash ! When I think about it, as well as the fact that I'm just plain greedy, I do use food as a reward. Coffee and a nice chocolate biscuit late at night, a reward for getting through the day but not anymore, I go to bed early and read my magazine and plan what I'm going to do when I'm slim !

A long bath and a mag when feeling like this in the evening, with a lovely glass of water:p haha

keep it going hun, the end rewards of nice slim clothes will be so much better;)

Berryred's right, we need to find a whole new set of treats for ourselves! Also, I am using the 'break from food' that CD gives me as a chance to find out why I overeat... I'n reading some books and trying to make some changes to the way I act around food. Sometimes the weight loss is just the tip of the iceberg!!! But I agree, there is something very empowering about CD - it has given me back control for the first time in years. We can do this! Good luck on your weigh in... just had mine and lost 4lbs, yay!

Congrats Katy.
Well done.

Dobo,
I would like to back up all of the above, don't worry about it. It was a mistake but not a bad one.
Just keep on it, and don't get disheartened.
