Went to Lloyds chemist earlier and treaded myself to a 3 tier steamer for only £9.77 Bargain or what???

Perfect for veggies :D Never used one before but thought it would be more healthy:)

I think that sounds like a good idea , have never tried one but my sister uses it a lot, will have to go buy one.

I only have a single teir steam, but it really does make a difference. Steamed veggies have more flavour than boiled ones, definitely.

Yep i hve a 3 tiered steamer as well. Havent used it for a while but it's great. Used to do whole meals in it. Fish and veg very yum. Love doing chicken in it as well. Takes a while to get the timings right. Veg like potato & carrots take longer to cook than fish & other veg like Broc. I'm sure you will hve fun experimenting

I use my steamer all the time and love it. I think the veg comes out really nice and if you eat meat/fish apparently that steams really well too.

just off to argos to buy one, they have a cheap one for £8., so will give it a go, must be cleaner as well than washing up all the pots

i use a steamer for my veggies all the time ther awsome! lol x

Trying to think of what I can make for dinner now but there are too many ideas in my head lol:8855:

I use mine from time to time, usually boiling baby tatties in the bottom, whilst steaming veggies above. I too struggle with timings alot. Anyone know any good sites for tips?

I find when cooking it's trial and error. You get to know after few times. I havent done a meal in it for a long time, so i can't exactly r'ber. Spuds take approx 20 mins, carrots are similar. Fish depending on size can be 8-15 mins. Brocoli roughly 8 mins. I guess it depends on wht veg you want to cook and how soft you want it. Did you not get a leaflet with your steamer telling you about cooking?

I bought my steamer yesterday after reading this thread, had lovely dinner cooked in it last night, even did my eggs in it this morning, meant I could leave them to boil without any fear of the pan drying out

I love my steamer, it does rice so perfectly. I'm hopeless at cooking it the normal way, it always used to come out like gloop. :D

Oh yes I want to try this too as I am the same I can never get it right! i am fine with pasta, cous cous, rissotto but normal rice not a hells chance, steaming is the only way I've not tried yet!

There is nothing difficult about rice, put it in pan with twice as much water as rice, bring to boil put lid on and turn off heat,do not lift lid to see if ok, wait 20 mins or so doesnt matter if longer, perfect rice everytime.let me know how you get on.

Oh tried that, still sloppy lol perfect for sushi though lol
I usually leave it to hubby, he makes yummy rice

My fella always manages to get perfect rice, he just boils it in a pan of water, then once its drained puts it in the oven to dry the excess water, its always turned out nice and fluffy.

I have a 3 tier steamer I always steam my salmon fillets in it, buy them on offer freeze them and just get out in advance of needing them and do a couple a time in my steamer. Very easy and tasty. Haven't tried any veg in it yet. I must make that a new year resolution - use my steamer more!

steamed chicken breast is divine, so moist and juicy.

Oooh...never thought of that! I have one of the 2 tiered on-the-hob steamers. I might have to try that! Thanks for the tip!
